This is the best explanation of dynamic balance I've found on the Internet. Thank you!

This is the worst. the technique to achieve it is just wrong.

I've just watch a 13 min plus vid and have the impression that it took 4- 5 minutes, that means it was freaking good tutorial, plus I've had fun ... thanks for taking the time and mostly for making it amusing to top it all.. Great work.

Actually...this is probably the most accurate way to achieve dynamic balance without the math and physics (momentum and torque) that is really involved....and I'm a physics/math guy! These techniques are essentially the same as mine when I balance my rig. Awesome guys!

These tips worked great for my cheapy stabilizer. The workflow was a key lesson for me, as I didn't know that I had to go back to vertical balance to fix what static and dynamic balance changed. Heck, I didn't even know that there was a static and dynamic balance. Thanks, guys! That was a great help! Also, the funny skits kept your lesson from being boring. :)

Congrats guys! This tutorial is really good!!!!!! Love the combination with (clean and great performed) comedy and technical tutorial. I actually watch this 2 times to catch everything. The first time was concentrated only in the tech aspect. Now lets have fun seeing again.

Closer than most I've seen...but...still working to hard. Certified SteadiCam owner/operator (a real SteadiCam) since 1978...Certified by Garrett Brown himself. Correct way to balance.. 1st...find the center balance point of your camera rig(use a round pencil or pen that rolls). 2nd...now place your camera rigs balance point over the center of the post...lock it down. 3rd...determine if you want quick moves or lethargic. For lethargic, extend the post. Shorter the post the more of a whip shot you'll achieve. 4th...adjust your weight front & rear to achieve a vertical balance & the side to side on the stage for a full vertical balance. Drop test should be about 2 seconds depending on your shot preference. Best tip...search for dynamic balance for a real SteadiCam either by Garret Brown or Jerry Holloway. Garrett Brown invented the SteadiCam. Also find the practice video...it's old but it works. Shows you how to walk and train...bottom line, practice practice and more pratice. One last thing...don't grip the gimbal handle tight and use only your thumb and index finger on post. Use your pinky to tilt the post. Treat it gently...let it do the work and turn off camera stabilization. Good flying...

1-2-3 is actually about 1.5 seconds. Is there any steadicam operator who has a concept of time that's based in reality?! They keep talking about a 2-3 second rule but count so fast that it's actually half that time...
@davidvandermeijde48846 жыл бұрын
you have to count like this: one thousand, two thousand etc. It's an ancient rule to get the seconds right :)

Great video! After I have set dynamic balance, I readjust the vertical balance. But that just throws the dynamic balance. Do I just keep adjusting between the dynamic balance and vertical balance? Been at it for two hours, can't seem to find a sweet spot.
