Ball point/ jersey needle and the size depends on the weight or thickness of the fabric. I usually go for the universal size which is btw 70/80

What is the standard neckline measurements for kids

You can use 2 by 2 inches. The Placket opening can be btw 2 to 3 inches. This also depends on the size of the kid. Make sure to do a sample before cutting the actual fabric.
