Christmas music playing on the radio, ads for Holiday sales, decorations in front yards, nostalgic Christmas movies, the smell of peppermint lattes, long shopping lines, and snow in the forecast-it can only mean one thing-it’s December and it’s the busiest time of the year for the North Pole. Santa is checking his list while the elves are making the presents and very soon he’ll be soaring above the clouds with Rudolph leading the way as he spreads joy across the world. Many people will spot Ole Saint Nick on rooftops, climbing down chimneys, munching on some cookies and milk in front of the fireplace, and streaking across the starry night sky. Make sure that on December 24th, you take a few moments and go outside and look towards the moon and catch a glimpse of the jolly joyful Kris Kringle smiling, laughing and ho-ho'ing! Best way to distinguish him from a drone, plane, or UFO, is a sleigh being led by beautiful reindeer silhouettes of course! So come join me and paint this iconic Christmas moment and imagine yourself looking up and seeing Father Christmas doing what he does best. The painting process is so simple to follow. You’ll first learn how to paint a background using just dark colors to capture the essence of the twinkling wintery sky. Then you’ll learn how to paint a bright moon and moonlit clouds using a scrubbing, or scumbling technique, perfect for creating fluffiness to your clouds and crater texture on the moon. Then you’ll learn how to paint evergreen pine trees using only two colors, creating depth, dimension and form in the branches. Next, you’ll learn how to draw and paint Santa, a sleigh and reindeer with small details and just one color. Then, after learning how to draw an outline for people, you’ll apply a grayscale base coat to work off of. Then you’ll add a colored glaze, highlights and shadows to the clothing to create a 3-D like appearance to the fabric and bodies. Creativity is always encouraged, paint a mother, son, daughter, father, girl, boy, or maybe the family dog, just have fun with it! This painting is sure to impress the viewer and compliment the décor of any room. Using only 3 brushes and 7 colors, you’ll paint like a professional!
