New comment! I had my road test today 3/21/2024! I binge watched these videos the night before, drank plenty of water, got 8 hours of sleep, did some breathing exercises to calm my self down and I ended up passing! Only got 5 points taken off for a wide right turn!

I am a 52 year old woman living in NYC. I have never had the need to drive since NY has a 24 hour public transportation system. Now that I am older I would like to be able to rent a car to get away and will be taking driving lessons soon. I needed a series of videos just like this to help me make the most of my in person driving lessons. Thank you so much for doing this.

I’m 22 years old and have always been too scared to get my license, and I feel dumb asking the questions I have. Thank you for making these videos and going over everything ‘simple’ that a lot of experienced drivers tell me is “common sense”. To a nervous learner who knows nothing about driving, nothing is common sense and I appreciate these detailed videos.

Dang, do you have any friends willing to teach you since you don't have family that will do it? My last driving practice was bad because I was likely nervous and I guess I had already forgotten the info my parents taught me lmao but since then I refreshed and have the driving class 101 info down. I have been practicing in the countryish side of our region. I really hope you'll have the opportunity to practice so you can get comfortable with driving. Good luck!

You can practice left and right turning and breaking lightly in a wide open empty parking lot. Try going to a high school parking lot on weekends. When I was learning to drive at 15 back in 1997/98, my Dad and I would wake up every Sunday morning and go to my High School parking lot (which was completely empty on Sunday mornings). He would make me go around and around turning left turns, turning right turns, driving straight forward, driving in reverse straight back, pressing the breaks sloowly, hitting the break suddenly like you would in emergency situations. It helped me learn the basics and build up my confidence before getting my Learners Permit.

I faced my fears and got behind the wheel for the first time today and your videos helped tremendously. When I was a teenager I wrecked my moms car while she was teaching me how to drive and I've had a huge fear of driving ever since (I'm now in my 20s), this year I decided to finally face my fear after realizing I can't rely on transportation my whole life. Your videos helped out a lot and I can't wait to continue learning! I've given myself a goal of 6 months but of course it would be nice to be finished learning before that time frame, getting behind the wheel in the first place was a huge milestone for me so it's only up from here. :)

Also, for the handbrake thing: If you don't have one, or you drive a truck (I own a 2012 Chevy Silverado), the emergency brake may be an actual pedal. It's small in comparison to the brake and accelerator, and there will be a lever near it that says "brake release."

people around me wonder how i’m 18 and don’t know how to drive which is understandable. during the time i should have been learning how to drive instead i preferred to walk everywhere, i rode bikes, skateboards, even taking public buses, or simply always had my mom drive me places. but since i moved to georgia there’s no public transportation, everything is so far from me, wanting some more freedom, and my mom is now too busy or just doesn’t want to drive me anywhere as much anymore 😭 so i’m taking it upon myself to finally learn how to drive, already got the car so at least that’s out of the way.

actually some cars make you put your foot on the brake b4 start up. i believe if your starting up a car from dead you always keep your foot on the brake pedal for ignition key start turn the key to the right until you hear the reving and start of the engine become steady and then let go of the brake pedal. you can then put your foot back on brake to switch it to reverse and back out.

Hi, I have driven a long time ago when ai was studying, then did a few lessons two years ago. I now don't have the confidence, as soon as I get behind the wheel, I can't estimate the size of the vehicle for turning etc. I can follow the signs and rules well, I just need to get rid of the mental block that I can't drive. This is a super weird question, but how can I drive with an open state of mind and without any stress?

Practise. Go to an empty parking lot and drive around. Practise turning, parking, and reversing. After you park, get out and check whether the car is where you were aiming for it be, and if not, how far away it was and in which direction. As you gain competence you will also gain confidence.

I heard the emergency brake and a button on the [car] dashboard (looks like a triangle, I think) can help when your regular brake is not working and you're driving and can't stop, but you're also in an area with other cars. Your vehicle speed is way too fast, or just average speed, and your [regular] brake is broken, then this emergency button and the emergency brake will help to somehow stop your car and stop a bad car accident. I'm just wondering if this is true or I'm remembering some parts wrong. This will help a lot of people to stay calm and stop the car from moving towards doom.
