ATTI-Mode is a powerful free flight mode on the DJI Phantom 4 (goo.gl/15gNro) and DJI Phantom 3 (goo.gl/92TKY6).
Learn how you can easily avoid flyaways and how you can use the A-Mode on your remote controller for indoor flying. Next to that I will answer questions, such as „Does the RTH work in ATTI Mode?“ and I will walk you through your first steps, using ATTI. No worries, you'll get it done for sure after watching this how to tutorial.

Just a couple of days ago, ATTI mode has literally saved not only my Phantom 4, but also myself from lots of trouble. I didn't re-calibrate the compass and took off next to a huge concrete structure which probably had metal fittings in it and that metal has probably interfered with the compass readings. My phantom took off just fine, but then suddenly went into a spiral around the structure, not responding to controls properly. It would have been a definite crash if I didn't react fast enough and switched to A mode before landing the craft safely. That's why I would recommend any beginner to enable mode switching in the settings from the very start even if you don't plan to use them yet. This can save you lots of money and trouble in case you make a mistake (like I did) or something goes wrong.

I see where some people don't know how to fly a drone and that's a good reason to equip aircraft with GPS, Infrared sensors etc. If you can't or don't want to fly in ATTI mode then don't. Myself, I like longer flying time and enjoy having full control of my bird. Each to their own and I think everyone should become proficient in ATTI mode or they aren't having all the fun they can.

ATTI is no big deal. As stated in the video, the difference is GPS positioning so if there is wind, expect a little drift in ATTI as opposed to P-mode, and that's it. The aircraft will be no more "sensitive" or "unstable" or anything. In fact, if there is no wind you will see only a slight difference in flying characteristics: In P-mode the craft more or less "stops" as soon as you center the sticks, while in ATTI it will tend to keep going in the last direction until you make it stop. No big deal. Go for it, you will love it.
@andykelly7321
@andykelly7321 8 жыл бұрын
The way you explained ATTI mode makes me ask one question, if by activating ATTI mode means if there is wind it will be affected, then what is the point of it? Why not just be safe and stick to P-mode to avoid the wind doing anything crazy? I have just ordered one of these and I am pretty nervous about flying it for the first time.
@coriscotupi
@coriscotupi 8 жыл бұрын
Andy Kelly For shooting pictures, film and just staying overhead, P (or GPS) mode (nomenclature varies a bit with version) is the way to go. If you want to fly from A to B, reposition the drone to look at another landmark, etc, or even if you just want to fly around like any traditional RC model, then ATTI is better. Think of P (or GPS )mode as a drone with *parking brakes on*. The drone fill fight not only wind, but also your maneuvering attempts. It will do its best to stay put in one spot, and by doing so it will be up to you, the pilot, to actively get it going in any direction. Which again is fine for small and gentle photo or film shooting, but as you will see, any major flight displacement will call for massive stick movements on the transmitter - and even then, will translate to only sedate drone movement. If I had to put the difference in one sentence: *In P (or GPS) mode, the drone will feel locked in a spot and more connected to you while hovering, while in ATTI mode the drone will feel more connected to you while flying around*. Don't be afraid of ATTI. Just experiment when there is no wind, move the drone from side to side, fore and aft. You will see it still does whatever you tell it to - it just won't pull the parking brake on you in the process. :-)

corisco tupi Now I'm even more nervous lol, my goal is to simply fly it about and takes some videos, I am not planning on taking it out if it is windy and I am not using it just to fly and have fun. I just want to fly it to take some cool videos. So after what you explained I am best using it in P-mode right? I have never been so confused in my life haha :)
@coriscotupi
@coriscotupi 8 жыл бұрын
Andy Kelly Don't overthink it. Just get out there and fly in P-mode, you will see the drone flies itself, really. After you are comfortable flying, get some height, some 10 to 15m, put it in ATTI mode and go ahead and see how it feels. Don't go far just nudge it around and get the feel for it. If you think it is slipping away from you, just flip back to P-mode mode and it will stay put, rock-solid, waiting for the next move. Your best bet while learning to fly will be to comfortably flip the switch back to P-mode (or return to home mode) without looking for the switch on the radio. Other than that, relax. I understand you are anticipating a lot of rush but take baby steps, you will be flying in no time. Most important - don't fly over people, property or near airports. Don't replicate the crazy stuff that we see on the news and are doing bad things for the hobby and for the aerial photo business.

Learning manual VTOL in A-Mode is an essential training element if you want to become fluent in landing. VFR VTOL exercises are also great, as they can teach you to land in the case your UAV is not in visual range and you have to land or take off using FPV only.

I just got a refurbished phantom 3 4k and took it out for it's first test run. It flew and performed fine, and I took some video, but I didn't realize the whole time it was in "A" mode but also I should mention it was using the GPS hold regardless. Glad to watch this to realize it can overide the gps or I would have thought the drone was defective on it's first run. Maybe they changed it since 2016 to use gps in A mode now?

One more advantage of the ATTI mode: Fly first against the wind. Switch to ATTI mode. Start filming. You will get a very smooth ride, and you won't risk the propeller in the picture. I do that all the time.

+anthony mcdonough Crazy eh? I love the A mode. It has saved my $2000 quad from disaster - many times. This crazy thing (in P mode) WILL sometimes fly-away - and that's very scary.People, simple be ready (always) to click into A mode -and you now have control. Don't panic, just realize, you have to fly on your own, and the wind will push and pull, but just get good at flying by yourself. For new pilots, this is a real learning curve - you get so used to it hovering perfectly (in P mode) but you need to learn to actually fly this RC by yourself! Cheers.
