Learn how to graph an equation with fractions for the slope and y intercept

👉 Learn how to graph linear equations written in standard form. When given a linear equation in standard form, to graph the equation, we first rewrite the linear equation in slope intercept form, (i.e. in the form y = mx + c, where m is the slope and c is the y-intercept). Next we plot the y-intercept and using the slope, we can determine the rise and the run of the required line and then be able to plot the next point from the y-intercept. Finally, we draw a straight line passing through the two plotted points.
Alternatively, we can determine the x-intercept and the y-intercept of the standard form linear equation by subtituting y = 0, then solve for x and substituting x = 0, then solve for y respectively. Recall that the x-intercept is the value of x when y = 0 and the y-intercept is the value of y when x = 0. After obtaining the values of the x-intercept and the y-intercept, we plot the points on the coordinate plane and then draw a line passing through the points.

cant you also just solve x and y separately. so make 1/3x =3 to get9/1 and then same thing with y, so -2/3y=3so you get -9/2 for your y and then out that on the graph. You still end up getting a positive line but the x coordinate is just placed on 9 at the beginning, so i think at the end you would get the same graph, right? its just another way to do it

So, When you divide fractions, you write it as a multiplication, right? Like: 2/3 divided by 4/6 would become: 2/3 times 6/4 (The thing where you keep the first number/fraction, then flip the division sign over and the next fraction over) In this equation, we had: -2/3y So we had to divide the numbers on the other side by -2/3 He said to change it into a multiplication so the number was switched round into: -3/2
