Unlike most commenters I'm neither Jewish nor Christian, just a European looking to move to Tel Aviv to work in the tech sector. So I basically wanna learn Hebrew to be able to use it when I arrive. And I have to say, this video was BY FAR the best way I have found to learn the writing system! Thank you sooo much! You are truly a life saviour!

That land is HOLY it is ancient, and when u are there you will feel as though you live in a world within this world, and when you know the scriptures, they suddenly come alive, they suddenly become real. No other religion or god produces sacred scripture rooted in time, place, chronology of human history, making the bible the most unique manuscript in all of recorded history. Our God is real, he made this place, abd he made us, and he wrote down his will and testament to us, that we would not be left without knowledge of who we are, where we live, how did we get here, what is our purpose and responsibilty, and who is he who created everything, and how do we find him and to who should we be in wonder of? And how should we express our thanksgiving, admiration, and worship in a way that brings glory to his name? And WHAT IS HIS NAME!? 😊

At age 39 I was excused from having to take Hebrew at Seminary due to my (old) age! So now I’m diving into it… aged only 70. I love it! Thank you!!

I could not agree with you more. I am fascinated by the Hebrew language, as some call it the language of God. I attend a weekly service, where the teacher takes a word, sometimes just a letter and then does a deep dive on it. I never thought such an exercise would interest me at all, but, after only 1 session I was so enthralled, I've been going weekly for 3 years now... taking 1 hour to drive in one direction... which I gladly do!!

I get what you're saying, the problem is that the Bible didn't exist until after it was translated. Before that it was just single scrolls for each book with slightly different texts depending on who hand wrote the scroll. As a novel hobby I'd say go for it.
@amakrid
@amakrid 5 ай бұрын
@@starboard9551 Indeed. We have the Greek translation from the 3d to 2nd century BC and the Jewish masoretic text from 7th to 9th century AD.
@starboard9551
@starboard9551 5 ай бұрын
@@amakrid It's not a translation if it's the original text in the original language. Also they didn't have widespread printing until the middle ages and that was done by hand one sheet at a time. Suffice to say the scrolls before there was printing had to be hand written for thousands of years and so there is a 0% chance of them all being identical. Not only was one scroll larger than a dictionary, it was only a single book out of the official 66 books of the Bible. Furthermore all modern "translations" besides the Authorized Version (now called the King James Version) only "translate" from torn fragments of the ancient scrolls so large sections of the text are either completely omitted or entirely made up.
@starboard9551
@starboard9551 5 ай бұрын
Also the original scrolls didn't contain spaces so the first thing you had to do was separate the words before you could even start your translation.

Me too!! I try remember jesus says i am the vine you are the branches. Therefore every letter a seed, 2 and 3 seeds form root words, that sprout forth branches of letters both to the left and right sides of the root, and they tell us whether the root becomes noun or verb, whether it is singular or plural, whether it is past tense, present, or future, is it direct or indirect, is it causal, accusative, neutral, is it passive or active, is it subject or object, and-male or female? Hebrew is structured this way because it is the language of LIFE, the DNA OF CREATION, the original sound of the words that created this world. It is the source code by which the 70 tongues were divided at Babel, and soon the Lord will cleanse the speech of his people, and put a new language on their lips that they all might worship יהוה in One Accord! And no lie shall be found upon their lips, and they shall never again repeat offenses, nor sin against his holy name.

This is an awesome way of teaching. Instead of being confused by the emense amount of information that comes from each letter, he focuses on teaching you how to pronounce it by its shape. As if you were a child learning the alphabet for the first time. I actually think that not having to learn the names and meanings is better for first timers!

Guten Tag my friend! I just wanted to let you know that I can pretty much read any Hebrew as well as I can read english. So it was a surprise for me when I tried to read Yiddish and could barely get a word right. This mostly due the fact that Yiddish uses actual vowels in the words and does not require as much extra writing as Hebrew and so it was very difficult for me to pronounce.

A linguist friend of my father explained that English, rather than being a true language, is actually a collection of languages- that English is similar to both ballet and classical music in that it gobbles up everything in its path and assimilates them. The i before e "rule" depends on a word's French or Germanic origins, for example. I've wanted to be able to read Hebrew for many years. This goes a long way to making that happen.

Z I've been learning Farsi, starting with the alphabet. I find this absolutely excellent and logical. This is easier than Farsi; for example Farsi has four different ways to write the "s" sound, and has written variations, depending on whether the letter is at the start or end of a word. Shades of Hebrew! Love it!!!

By the way, this will be my 3rd language. Thank you. Could you please include in your book list, one you may recommend to continue learning Hebrew? Thank you

I have absolutely learned more from this video than I did with a college teacher teaching Biblical Hebrew.i know with practice I will be able to read my own Hebrew Bible with that said understanding comes from study. I love to consume everything about the Hebrew. With time I will be able to read understand and teach. Thank you so much. I had become discouraged with my Hebrew studies. After this video I am encouraged and confident in my studies again, Thank you so much! e

It's time to fulfill this "bucket list" wish. I will save tis video and review as many times as it takes. Thank you so much TeNak.

Oh, also, my native language is German and I was totally able to follow you.
