I realize this question is several years old, but... I have the books, and love my fitted dress. Next I want to try pants. (And some bias jeans!❤) For pants specifically, does a ponte fabric count as a woven or stretch knit ? Thank you!

Kelly, If you fit a pant pattern for a woven fabric, then want to make it in a ponte, the main changes will be to take in the side seams and pull up the pants to turn the top under to make a casing for elastic if you want pull-on. You may still need to add more for that casing. Ponte is one of the firmer knits but still grows on the body because of the stretch. Hope this helps!! Pati

@@PalmerPletschVideo 😍 Fan Girl Moment! Pati answered ME. 💕 Thanks for the response! Yes, I had thought about the extra for a casing. Just wasn't sure about which way to treat it. It is a double knit, but it is stable... what is it going to do? I have had gabardine grow on me before.🙄 I know you love wool, but I live in south Texas. No wool. 😁

Hello I have a question about which pattern measurements to use on your pants patterns. My fabric is a polyester twill so there is no stretch. Do I use the size for my hip measurement- or the size for the finished garment hipline measurement? In the hip size measurement I’m between sizes 22&24 for the view I chose, but in the ‘finished garment hipline’ the size 20 is only a half size smaller than I am in my hips. What size do I use - the pattern is a McCalls Palmer & Pletsch 3740 and I’ve made it before years ago but now my size has changed 🙁 but it’s still my ‘perfect pants pattern’! Love your videos and explanations and am buying the Pants for Real People book - it’ll be a big help! Happy Sewing Virginia in Arkansas

You will want the pants to be 3" larger than your hip measurement, so select the size with the FGM that much larger than your hips. Sometimes even more when the fabric has no streatch, but our pant patterns have 1" out and in-seam allowances which gives you some leeway. Hope this helps.

Excuse me, I have a question, if you can help me If we reduce the width of the crotch in the front of the pants, is it effective in the beauty of the pants? In some methods (for one size), the front crotch width is, for example, 6, but in others it is 5 or 4 which one is better ?? And give us better pants? I'm sorry if I wrote bad English

The amount of crotch length really depends on what your body needs. For example, full front thighs need more front crotch length so you'd let out the front inseam. A flat derriere often needs less and you would take in the back inseam.I hope this helps. Pati
