I took class to learn how to skate most coach teach like this man and I couldn't skate not even spin. I always thought that they should put me in the harness so my body could feel the spin and then I can perfectly myself but they always said that for advance skaters. I believe there should be more great ice skating coach that can help skaters that hass no talent at all. They believe teaching like this to everyone any skaters would learn but they are wrong each person is different.

We're sorry to hear you have had a negative experience with the local coaches in your ice rink. Please bare in mind that this video is general advice intended to help people as a whole. For specific cases where someone is struggling, we would need to see what they are doing and give them advice and feedback based on what we see. Part of the job of coaching is to find a way to deliver the correct information and feeling of the move in a safe way to the student. As you mention, the approach should be based on what works with each individual student and adapted accordingly. If you have any questions, feel free to ask us!

Hi thank you it has been my dream to be a figure skater but I can't skate. I have been like 10 couches they are great in teaching but not for a student like me. I don't know if you have coaches in NYC area like Chelsea Piers or Westchester ice casino, that I can paid and maybe this time I can really learn how to skate. I was thinking maybe I need a programmed to be choreograph so instead of figure skating school I can practice the program with the music and I can skate. My favorite program was Peggy Fleming at the Olympics, beautiful. Maybe on of your coach can teach me. Thank you have a beautiful day

My skates wont spin in a full circle. they kinda stop because they scratch the ice, any tips?
@wisdomseeker35107 жыл бұрын
Hi, if you mean a two-feet spin, and you are spinning CCW (counter-clockwise), you might try to stand rather on your heel on the RIGHT foot and on the rocker of your left foot lifting a bit your left heel; if you mean one foot spin, it used to happen to me I scratched systematically with my toe-picks unil I found this genious clip : kzbin.info/www/bejne/i6ubnXiqjt-diac where they explain HOW to find the balance on the ROCKER : you have to LIFT your toes unless you are going to scratch, thing about your toes when you engage in spinning. I hope this might be helpful. Enjoy! Cheers.

I love ice skating but somehow it’s so hard to spin or skate backwards for me lately... My friend told me yesterday when we went ice skating, that my left foot is bending out (again), my right foot stands straight on the ice and the ice skating shoe is tight on my right foot but I feel like it’s not on the left one. I once was able to skate backwards very well and was learning how to spin, I haven’t fully learned how to spin then I told myself I will continue next time I go ice skating. That day, when I wanted to continue learning how to spin it all felt so weird on my left foot, my left foot broke... I wasn’t caring at first but after the time I felt strong pain on my left foot I started to skate a little slower and went to the bank outside of the ice rink. It felt soooooo hard to walk and when I wanted to move my left foot in any way it was HUUUUUUUURTINGGG so bad. That all happened in 1 hour and i still had 3 hours left to stay but I was all by myself. I decided to go on ice and just practise some spins and not really “ice skating” forward or backwards. While I tried spinning I fell soooo bad that my left foot completely broke. The pain was unreal. Luckily a man who worked there called the ambulance and my parents. Now my foot is healed and I’m getting new Ice skating shoes... it’s my dream to become a figure skater and all skaters fall right? I will never stop ice skating, I may have to start from the beginning now but it’s worth it
@IceCoachOnline5 жыл бұрын
We're sorry to hear about your injury! But happy to hear that you've recovered! Getting new skates is a good idea. If in future you feel some pain that isn't normal, it's worth getting it fully checked out before you injure yourself even more. Also, make sure you follow your rehab plan for your foot completely! We've all had nasty falls and injuries, it's the tough part of the sport! The best we can all do is take precautions to minimise this risk. Thank you for sharing your story!

A tip that I use that I don’t think was mentioned was that when you’re right about to go Spinning put more of your weight on your left foot (if you’re spinning left) and go a tad bit on your outer edge near your toes but not touching the toe pick. Idk this works for me

@@maryrua Completely possible. Use the method outlined at 0:55 in this video, and check the first minute of this video for a few tips: kzbin.info/www/bejne/epammWWkj8ynmLs Keep in mind the rocker on a figure skate is towards the ball of the foot, whereas the rocker on a hockey skate is in the middle so you're going to want to put your center of balance around the middle of the skate (this is what makes it more difficult to spin in hockey skates).

Thank you. Can you tell which blades is best to buy? Your blades is so fast. I 've bought a MK Flight 10.25"/02N blades, I cannot skate on them.
@IceCoachOnline4 жыл бұрын
The blades we use are John Wilson Gold Seal, but they are for high level skaters an not necessary before you are trying very high level moves. I would say the issue you have is less likely due to the blade you mention, but more likely an issue with the boot they are on. Perhaps the boot is not the correct size for your foot, making it very hard to find the correct points of balance on your blade. I wrote a guide on my Patreon to help people check they have the correct sized skates. It might be very helpful for you 🙂

@ShellySkates5 жыл бұрын
It could be a couple things. Is your free hip up? If you are dropping your free hip, this could cause the body to fall off the spinning axis and in turn you could fall to the inside edge. Or while you're spinning, are you not on the rocker of the foot? Do you feel like you are pressuring more towards the middle/flat of your foot?

Can you tell where the pressure on your foot is? If you feel pressure on the inside (arch) of your foot and having the body weight more towards the middle/heel of the foot, this may be the cause of you feeling that backwards motion. You want to have that left foot on the ball/rocker of the blade and have your foot leaning slightly to the outside of your foot.

there's something that drives me crazy and i don't understand. it's hard for me to spin and stay in place. i always fall out of my spins bc of that. do i need to go on my toe pick just before i start spinning to be more stable?
