They have "Dan anda" labeled as polite. I was led to believe that anda is an informal way of addressing someone you are close with. Wouldn't it be better to use "Kamu"?

Yes it would be better if you use kamu intead of anda, anda is really formal and sometimes it could be interpreted that you are angry when you use "anda"
