OMFG 😂😂😂 That English speaker sounds like a southern drunk trying to make fun of an Italian. Those pronunciations are WAY exaggerated
@IlGattonero135 жыл бұрын
I agree that they're exaggerated, but for the purpose of instruction, they're intended (I think) to strongly accentuate the differences between the correct and incorrect pronunciations for students who might not otherwise distinguish them easily. (That said, I have heard people pronounce Italian words that way -- and it makes me cringe!)

I'm learning Italian to honor the memory of my father who spoke fluently and read books in 6 languages and Italian was the closest and the dearest to him over English, German, Amharic, French and Russian. Though he tried to teach me when I was young, i was too focused on mastering English i didn't pursue it seriously. But now tyat he is gone and i remember how much he insistedfor me to learn italian language and culture, I am devoting the next 2 years to learn and master Italian to fluency...to a point of it becoming an inherent mode of expression of being just like my Father and just as he tried to insist...even though I didn't hearken to his voice. 😪 So help me God, i shall honor his memory and legacy in this way that he thought, spoke and lived! 🙏 learning Italian is about continuity of a family legacy for me..and I am so grateful to find your channel amongst many. Thank you for all you do on this channel, you may not realize how much of an impact you have until you hear it from us....🙏 ....some of us is ones that forgot everything their parent/ grandparent taught them before they moved to America at a young age. And now that their roots have gone to heaven but they know and remember their noise, sound, expression and soul more in Italiano than any of the other languages they spoke.....😪 so are now desperately trying to hear them (the ancestors) again...remember everything they said and all the principles they lived by and everything they taught back then. 🙏 language is not always about tourism....sometimes it's about connecting to one's roots, lineage and historical identity too. So kudos to you Emanuel, keep blessing the world with this good thing you are doing. Many more than you think are grateful for it! 🙏 grazie mille per esserci 🙏💚💛❤️🙏

Although the person is speaking American English and therefore not said exactly as an English person would say it, the comparison of the English way and the Italian way is brilliant. It makes me realise that I have been mispronouncing some of these words for years. Especially the ones we use in England or hear in songs. So thank you so much for this video.
@fssrk12 жыл бұрын
Appreciate the great comparison of English versus Italian pronunciation. I've been studying just a little over a week focusing on pronunciation and its almost painful to listen to the English person mispronounce the words but its a great example of what English speakers hear in movies or the vowels we don't stress in our words.

A very straightforward video, Manu, thanks :) For me, a Slavic speaker, Italian pronunciation is super-straightforward. What you didn't mention is aspiration. English speakers aspirate plenty of consonants (t, p, ...), whereas you, Italians, don't. For example the "t" in "Quanto". The North-American English speaker tends to say quant[h]ou, and you repeat it after him very exactly. Maybe that's too advanced for this video, right?

Yes, I think the popular English way of saying amore is definitely from movies and songs. May I point out one other mistake? (Even English speakers do this) ... the word pronunciation is "proNUNciation" not "proNOUNCiation". I feel a bit cheeky saying that now, but my intentions are to be helpful :D
@matteo.belmonte4 жыл бұрын
I have a question about the affricates in Italian: [d͡ʒ] and [t͡ʃ]. I know that in Italian, double consonants are geminated, similar to your one example between the words: «cappello» vs. «capello». In this example, I know that the [p] sound differs between these two words. Cappello, meaning hat, is pronounced as [kap'pεllo] vs. capello, meaning hair, is pronounced as [ka'pεllo]. My only concern is with geminated affricates. I'll use the word «faccia» and a made up Italian word «facia». Faccia is pronounced as ['fatt͡ʃa] and facia would be: ['fat͡ʃa]. In the first one, using «faccia», is there a [t] sound before the affricate: [t͡ʃ]? Or is [tt͡ʃ] just pronounced more profoundly than [t͡ʃ]?

I totally don't mean to criticize the learner in this at all because we all start from somewhere, but oof, god, I hope I don't sound like this 😂 Also thanks for this 😊 My O vowel tends to want to turn into a dipthong so this is a good reminder to be aware of that 😊 It's my closed O especially that tries to dipthong, my open O isn't usually too bad

Scusate, I suspect the flag was confusing. We meant an native English speaker in the sense of someone whose mother tongue is English, and we used the British flag to represent the English language, since so many countries have English as their national language!

I think it would be helpful if instead of hearing a really bad pronunciation, that you just paused a second for me to say the word aloud, then hear you say it properly. A few rounds of that would be amazing as I'm trying to say it correctly over the poor English pronunciation.

Sorry, as a Brit, I just have to gripe about this... you give the union jack (British Flag) but have a speaker with a distinct American accent. That's just an... insult ;-) Yes, I get the notion, that Americans just pronounce things just more wrongly (as the pronounce most English words wrongly to begin with ;-) but putting the British flag next to American pronunciation... just like I put up the name of you city and the coat of arms of another provincia... o un altre regione... (per esempio, come porre il cita de Roma accanto a una bandiere de Napoli)
