When spoken : mangio una mela, is more popular, but I guess in written texts, you should use: io mangio una mela.

Hello, just watched the first part of this video and I already am puzzled lol. Is there a video on why “io ho” which at the moment I’m learning is “I have” is used differently when saying you are eating something. To me that would say “I have ate an apple” which is also correct but the translation you are showing is just “I ate an apple” Why is the “ho” there? What is the grammar rule for this please if anyone can answer. Grazie!
