I love this format. Also great that you're putting out three episodes where you won't have to retread the explanations for vocab from the previous episode. Can just quickly translate and move on. Also, the immersion at the very end is brilliant. Makes it easy to rewatch that portion to see if I retained everything. Thank you!

Absolutely amazing work as always Matt!! FF10 is one of my favorites of the series. It'd be awesome to see you continue FF8 at some point as well 😁

I honestly did not expect to see this. I was watching the Japanese version of FFX yesterday and trying to translate every sentence in an effort to learn Japanese, and then your video pops up in my algorithm. You sir, are a legend.

Those first two lines from Tidus are included as the first track of the FFX OST so I've heard them so many times

Congrats on going full time Matt :) I am so hyped you're putting out so many episodes of FFX. I played up to Kilika in Japanese when I was much worse in the language, so now hopefully you can get close to that part and I can continue where I left off.

Oh "shiteii" means "is it okay?" Is that what they're always saying in Danganronpa games, like, "is it okay to say that such-and-such hid the knife in the place" or "is it really okay to call X the culprit?" That's such a funny little Japanese-ism. Is that what they're translating?

You got me playing final fantasy after 15 years. ( the remake VII ) you're too much passionated and that's contagious. But there is nothing more beautiful than passion in this world, so let it burn. maybe I'll do this one after VII remake haha. thank you for the content as always king.

At 55:14 you said that 倒そう means to try to defeat. I'm sorry if It's been said in the previous video and I missed, but what's the grammar behind this grammatical structure? Thank you very much!
@GameGengo Жыл бұрын
So the everything before と思う is quoting exactly what's being thought. "Let's beat them all!" So a 100% literal translation would be "Don't think "Let's beat them all!". The Volitional form here 倒そう (Vよう)can be used to express the will to do an action. When I translated it to 'try' thats because sometimes it can be translated like that in ways like ようとする, but at its core, its all about expressing the will to do an action.

I adore FFX, played it a bunch when I was little and actually was trying to play through it myself in JP off and on recently. Really agree with the remaster tidus face sentiment, I think the ps2 faces felt more human

I love this but I wish if you put the words also in English it's hard to know for sure the pronunciation.
@calypsocostelo2482 Жыл бұрын
Hi! In my opinion, you shouldn't get stuck only with video games. You should also try manga like Lupin the Third witch is very popular and a lot of people would like to understand the japanese spoken in that TV series. Thanks for the hard work you did.

Out of interest, why are some words written in Katakana and then hiragana in another game? ぼんやりと in Pokemon and ボサっと in FF10? I know they're different words but you said they were similar so just wondering why the different use of alphabet
@_Username__ Жыл бұрын
Hey Matt You know, PS2 has huge game library , why don't you explore the visual novel games off that library nowadays we can portabley emulate & play those games
@smudge8882 Жыл бұрын
That's definitely a good suggestion but from what I've seen, Matt doesn't really like visual novels much. He tends to avoid them (with some exceptions).
