I love this tutorial, adding the favourite beverage gets the 'thumbs up' from me x

If you divide the middle section into three sections and do a simple braid before the overhand knot it comes out much neater. Especially if you plan to use that loop as part of a closure.

Thank you for this tutorial. Came here because in one of the last material-donations we got at our workshop we found one of those braiding-disks and no one knew what it is used for. Did a reverse imagesearch and POOF : I ended up here😄 I have one question though: What is the best way to secure the loose ends of strands othjer then doing another fat knot?

Ah I remember when doing that was popular as I was a kid. But we had plastic like threads and didn’t use any discs. But I remember this pattern! It was fun 🤩 but definitely harder without the disc. To remember what’s next and all😂

Very interesting thank you for this. To make the narrower braid, would you use less threads or are they just finer and thinner, I can't think of the word that means a finer sized thread!! Doh! Hope you know what I mean.

Ok, this knowledge comes from watching the animated film "Your name". The grandma was making one with heaps of cords, but they had the little girl making one with just 4 pairs. So I think you could use less cords. Though working with smaller thread, such as embroidery thread, or a strand of wool will give you a thinner result. Also thinking about it, i think the smallest number you could do it with would be 2 pairs. If you are going to test it out, use cheap materials first in case it doesn't work out the way you like.

How do you finish it off so it does not unravell please?

If it's a synthetic thread, you can just burn the end, it will melt together..

Knot the end in an overhand knot to finish it at the end. Pretty simple.
