Anybody notice how I ordered my smoothie? I said, ເອົາຄືເກົ່າແນ່ - ɑ̌o khɤ́ɤ kao nɛɛ “I’ll take the usual.” I’m a regular customer so she knows what I always get. For ordering a drink or a smoothie you can say, ເອົານ້ຳປັ່ນໝາກມ່ວງຈອກໜຶ່ງແນ່ - ɑ̌o nâampan ma᷈akmuang t͡ɕɔ᷈ɔk nɤŋ nɛɛ “I’ll take a mango smoothie please.” or the more common way to say it is ເອົາປັ່ນໝາກມ່ວງປະສົມກັບໝາກນ໋ອດຈອກໜຶ່ງແນ່ - ɑ̌o pan ma᷈akmuang káp ma᷈aknɔ́d t͡ɕɔ᷈ɔk nɤŋ nɛɛ “I’ll take one blended mango mixed with passion fruit.”

I speak lao. Watching to support your journey.waiting to see you teach free English to the less fortunate children.

Appreciate you watching even though you speak Lao already. I let everyone know that I'm always looking for opportunities to go teach these children so hopefully something comes along soon. In the meantime and as a way to reach more people I do plan to make English teaching clips.

I might make the price of Mangosteen go up. I would buy it all the time. It's expensive in The Philippines. I am jealous of your eating out lifestyle. I saw this in Thailand. I ate out at a market as much as I could in Chiang Mai. The grocery shopping with a big refrigerator and big kitchen is engrained in American lifestyles. In Ukraine I would buy food for 3 days and then do it again.

haha the fruit is addictive. I really do enjoy relaxing daily trips to the market for all the fresh foods rather than the headache of a big shopping trip to the grocery store back home.

Avocado is called ໝາກເບີ (Butter) in Savannakhet. Someone mentioned mak bur tree and of course I didn’t know what it was until we came home and asked my older brother 😅

That's super interesting. Love learning the different regional words. Haven't come across that here in Vientiane. Usually you see ອາໂວກາໂດ. ໝາກເບີ would make sense and wonder if it's called that in other provinces, especially those close to Vietnam as that's what it's called bơ in Vietnamese so the same besides the tone.

Did you ultimately choose Laos over Thailand and Vietnam?
@LaoLegends5 ай бұрын
I didn't choose one over the other. Got love for them all. I studied this region, but am fascinated by so many of the cultures, languages, and foods of the world. I do feel a special affinity for the Lao language, food, and culture though so thought it was the perfect home base for me.

They sure do. It's the most endearing trait and find myself being a more giving person around Lao people.

Question for anyone here: Does anyone know about the allergy (Hay Fever) or Asthma situation in Laos? I know it's dry with a rainy season.

Asian pearl Lao name’s ຫມາກຈອງ ບໍ່ແມ່ນ ຫມາກສາລີ
@LaoLegends5 ай бұрын
Thank you, I thought I had learned another word for Asian pear before! I've asked so many of the fruit vendors what it is and they all told me ໝາກສາລີ່ so wonder if people here use this word more or not..perhaps since we're right next to Thailand. Otherwise I've been using the wrong word the whole time haha...live and learn. Appreciate you being the first to let me know. :)
