Excuse me, Sir. For the words "doktar" and "bollivud", the syllables "do" and "bo" when written in Devanagari script are written differently than expected. Why is chandrabindu without anuswara being used in those words? Thank you.
@ChaitanyaGokhaleCalligraphy3 жыл бұрын
Hello, in Devanagari, we have two different pronunciations and have different strokes. For eg. Word Boat has a matra and it's written as बोट. For words like frock, doctor, the pronunciation of 'o' is more emphasized, डॉक्टर, फ्रॉक. Hence there is difference in upper stroke and same is applicable to word Bollywood. बॉलिवूड. Again, in Hindi, it changes due to different pronunciations. For eg in Marathi, bank will be written as बँक, where as in Hindi, it'll be written as बैंक. I hope I have tried to answer your question. Thank you!🙏🏻

Hello CGC. Thank you for answering my question. Where can I learn more about this "upper stroke"? All upper strokes are explained, even chandrabindu is explained. But I cannot find the emphasized "o" stroke. Does it have a proper name? Does it happen in foreign words only?

@@aichujohnson8444 I'll try to find technical or correct term for it and share it with you. These subtle variations in writing Devanagari, are because of the phonetic script. There are almost 5000 conjunct letters in the script. I'll share some more details soon. Thank you!
