In that situation, I'd think you would deny with the further hand, not the closer hand, as that gives you more time to stop the ball. It may already have passed your left hand, but your right hand can get it.

If you use right hand you leave yourself out of position to guard and open to a back door screen. Using left hand is ideal in this scenario no?

Left thumb down, hand see ball. You have backside help in a true man defense. This isnt the NBA.
