I would be interesting to understand the reasons why imaginary numbers are needed for SDR I/Q samples.

Why the sender sends a real sinusoid signal but receive a sinusoid signal with real and imaginary part ?

I have the same question. I guess it is only one signal, but it has a certain phase phi. To account for that phase, you get a cos and sin signal. This cos and sin is however only a mathematical representation of the phase of the signal… But maybe someone could explain better.
