Her English is better than 95% of Americans. Most Americans know nothing about predicates and such. Her syntax and grammar are perfect. Here accent is ever-so-slight. She enunciates more clearly than most Americans.

VERY well explained! You're a natural speaker, and I found it easier to learn from you than with some other websites. I was in Thailand Jan. 2011, and want to learn more of the language because I hope to be back there again this coming Jan. or Feb. This is the first video I've seen of your work, so I'll check out the other one's you made. Keep up the good work!

Yuki Tachaya You're welcome! And I'm sure your other videos will be just as helpful. Have you ever done any T.V. work? You have a very nice personality, and, sorry to use the same word again, but you'd be a natural on that, too. Maybe newscasts and reporting?

Hi Chris :) Thanks for watching my video. As for the difference between "หรอ" and "หลอ", the former is the correct pronunciation whereas the latter is more what Thai people really pronounce in real life :) And it's not just this word but almost every word that is spelled with ร, sadly enough, Thai people would pronounce with ล instead because it's easier to pronounce. If possible, you should stick to the ร sound though because it sounds more proper and beautiful :)

Yuki I find the way you explain Thai so helpful . I am English and your grasp on the English language and the way to express examples and comparatives is amazingly helpful . Many thanks indeed for taking the time to help people like myself who are desperate for the simplicity add to what can be hard without you . I probably shouldn't say this but you are also very easy on the eye and a pleasure to look at . Please keep up the videos if only for my sake . Tom Pattaya business man learning hard .

If you browse through our channel, you should find it :) And as for "why are we going this way?", you can say "tammai khun maa taang nii ka?". Literally, it means "Why did you come to this direction?". Hope this helps! BTW, did you know that we have just launched a new podcast project? Please feel free to have a look. We teach you cool stuff that Thais people use in everyday life but textbooks don't teach. You're going to like it ^ ^. Please find the link in the video description. Thanks again for your comment! :)

Thanks for the suggestion. However, I find the topic a bit too difficult for the majority of Thai learners. I'd rather make videos that a lot of people can benefit from. Once I have made enough videos for beginner and intermediate learners, I might think about doing one on the topic you suggested though. Thanks again ^^.

awesome...your language skills are admirable!!..btw...Is Kaw a question word too? ...how to say "May I ask you a question"
@pickupthai
@pickupthai 11 жыл бұрын
Thank you :) Kaw is not a question word. It means "to ask for" but we use that a lot when making requests. In that case, you can translate it as "Can I...?" So to say "May I ask you a question", we say "Kaw taam arai noi daai mai". I made a video on the topic of making requests, please have a look ^^
@pickupthai
@pickupthai 11 жыл бұрын
Yes, you can say "ไม่" but "ไม่ชอบ" would be better. Alternatively, you can also say "เปล่า". This gives a sense of denying. It means "no", implying that "it's not true" or "that's not the case". And for the "ไหม" ending question, you are right. You have to say "ชอบครับ" for "yes" :)

Thank you for such great lessons. How do I practice rolling my Rs? This is very difficult
@pickupthai
@pickupthai 9 жыл бұрын
Chuck Yezza The R sound in Thai is the same sound as that in Spanish. However, 99% of the time, even Thai people replace that sound with the regular L sound. So if you can't roll your R, it's not that big of a deal. It will only make you sound very proper if you can roll it. That's all.

Hello, Yuki! Thank you so much for taking your time to teach us Thai language. I read you have learnt Portuguese, right? I'm happy you like it, since it's my mother language :) I have a question! When you were explaining about ror, you gave this example: คุณไม่ใช่คนอเมริกันหรอ? Why ไม่ใช่? If I say "คุณไม่เป็นคนอเมริกันหรอ?", is it wrong?
@อุบลฮิมมูล
@อุบลฮิมมูล 9 жыл бұрын
Hi guy, I think sometimes she was busy about work or study. So I'll answer your question by my understanding. lol The word "ไม่ใช่" it was used when we want to ask someone in question sentence and refuse in question. For example, "คุณไม่ใช่คนเอริกัน หรอ/ใช่ไหม? Aren't you an American? But the word "ไม่เป็น" it was used when we want to know other healthy or sickness. For example "คุณไม่เป็นไข้ หรอ/ใช่ไหม?" or "คุณไม่เป็นมะเร็ง หรอ/ใช่ไหม?" "Aren't you sick?"and "Aren't you cancer?" And other word that we usually use, is "ไม่ได้เป็น" it's similar to "ไม่ใช่" For example "คุณไม่ใช่คนอเมริกัน หรอ/ใช่ไหม?" and "คุณไม่ได้เป็นคนอเมริกา หรอ/ใช่ไหม" It's the same meaning that Aren't you an American or you are not an american right? But when you want to use in action, you have to use "ไม่ได้" and follow by the verb. for example "คุณไม่ได้ไป หรอ/ใช่ไหม?, คุณไม่ได้ทำ หรอ/ใช่ไหม? คุณไม่ได้กิน หรอ/ใช่ไหม?" Don't you go?, Don't you do?, Don't you eat?. something like that

Rafael Ferreira in fact "คุณไม่เป็นคนอเมริกันหรอ?" is ok, but it sound weird... lol
@pickupthai
@pickupthai 9 жыл бұрын
Rafael Ferreira Bom dia khun Rafael. Sim, eu falo um pouquinho de português (^ 3 ^), You cannot say "ไม่เป็น" for "to be + not." This is a common mistake made by many Thai learners. When the verb to be is followed by a noun, you need to use "ไม่ใช่". If you'd like to use "เป็น", you need "ได้" after the negative particle "ไม่", so it would be "ไม่ได้เป็น". In other words, you can say either "ผมไม่ใช่คนอเมริกัน" or "ผมไม่ได้เป็นคนอเมริกัน". Hope this helps!
@SeintDirk

The word "ไม่เป็น" it was used when we want to ask about the healthy, living or life, the happiness, and so on.

I thought your video lesson was fantastic. Got so much out of it. I was always unsure of the functions of the different question types. Is the difference between หรอ and หลอ purely a matter of level of formality? Answers to negative questions I am always unsure of whether I have properly understood. And English speakers are so fond of negative questions. Maybe Thai speakers somewhat less. Thanks again!

Is the "no" response to เธอชอบช้อปปิ่งหรอ (10:57) simply "ไม่" or "ไม่ดรับ"? And can you also say "ชอบดรับ" for a "yes" response as in a ไหม ending question?

It takes a very long time to add subtitles because our videos are usually pretty long since we want them to cover as many points as possible. If you don't understand any parts, please feel free to ask :)

This was a very useful video, thank you! Since you said you were looking for suggestions, maybe you could make a video about personal pronouns. They seem to be very intricate compared to other languages. Thanks again! :)
