I just went to my clinic today with Land Safe and we have a 2 day one. This is actually amazing. A lot of people are saying “oh it won’t help me” this can help you IMPACTED your fall. They don’t teach you how to fall off they teach you how to impact your fall. Beside just flopping off they teach you how to roll off and fall in the safe way they can help.

The way some of them were tumbling is dangerous when they do it on actual track and not pads

And falling off a moving horse is much more dangerous! It's muscle memory and having this moment of training and learning how to react in that moment is what this training is all about. It works!

When I was in cheerleading we did a stunt where I did almost exactly this off someone’s shoulders, so similar height. And I did it onto a mat. This may look graceful and sound like a good idea but even doing it like this, expecting the fall, and landing on mats can be dangerous. I did it just the way I was supposed to and I got a concussion that put me out of practice for the longest time. Now imagine if instead of stepping off something onto a mat when you’re ready, you are unexpectedly thrown from a thousand pound animal to gravel with absolutely no warning. That would be a LOT different. I don’t think I would still want to somersault off and land on my head, even if my mind had enough time to process the situation and what I was taught to do.

I was riding a horse for the first time and I apparently rolled off/fell off properly so I wanted to see how I fell off and I guess I’m just a natural

I just feel like... if i try to roll when falling off a horse i may accidentally damage my neck or back if i do it wrong, or get trampled part way through?
@destinyscroggs2099

I agree. I think the idea is to break your fall with your feet/legs, but keep going from there. I mean stop yourself by landing on your feet but then transfer your momentum into rolling to avoid putting all of that momentum into your joints, instead put it into the ground by rolling which will save your joints and maybe some broken bones. I’m not for sure about this but it’s what I got from it. I don’t feel like immediately going into a somersault without landing on your feet first is a good idea though simply because of the risk of landing on your head. I understand you can’t always control how you fall, but if you can you should try to *not* fall on your head. I did something just like this when I was a cheerleader and from about 5 feet onto a mat, when I was expecting it, I gave myself a pretty bad concussion. Now imagine a 1,000 lb animal with no warning, and no mat. I also can say I’ve tried the tuck and roll method here, where they landed almost head first and rolled. Not on purpose lol but I wasn’t able to hold myself off my head long enough to roll if that makes sense. Instead my hands hit the ground, then my head, then my neck, and suddenly I was laying on my back with a lot too many bruises. Not so graceful in reality compared to what they show here 😂

actually today I fell of a horse and when I realised that I was about to fall I basically pushed myself out of the saddle and saved myself from any major injuries. I only got a couple of bruises but the situation could have gone really south if I hadn't done that. So in a split second you can react to a fall. So I guess sometimes there is a chance to react to a fall and if you can you should.

My horse has a very bad habit of suddenly taking off and just running as fast as she can, and then when I ask to slow down she slams on the breaks and I keep goin. I’ve fallen off twice now but she does it quite often, I currently have a terrible bruise the size of 2 fists from hitting the saddle horn on my way down

But the way they fell putting all the pressure on wrists and hands first ..i mean wrists and hands would be damaged so bad due to the pressure of fall and also my weight all that focused on hands first! I feel like maybe starting to fall at the tip of the feet and then do everything else

This may help and all but in a reality you never know what could happen between you and your horse. Just yesterday my horse and I were cruising and all of a sudden she tripped and fell with me one her back it happened so quick I didn't have time to reacted we're a little banged up but we're ok I'm taking a break for a while from riding her just to give her time to heal.

this may be great, but aside from fake stirrups (and padded landings), they're not wearing helmets and it seems that may make a difference

Why not teach them to jump off n land lightly on their feet. Much better than tumbling. I did this today when my horse fell over I went Kick Kick Jump Turn Land 4 feet away from my horse. I don't have any training just was good at gymnastics at school (long time ago) or maybe I was just plain lucky
