In this video I show you how to Lear the best way to improve your positional play at pool. I show you how playing for bigger areas is much better than trying to be pin point all the time. I also demonstrate few practice drills which you can work on and adapt for yourself and in order to help you improve.

I would play D but I imagine a lot of people would opt for A if the angle is there. There is a possibility of running into the yellow with A so I'd prefer the option with less/no traffic. I'm also very comfortable with screw so I'd happily play the screw shot. As long as you remember a little thing I heard Chris Melling say... "Nothing for short". As long as you don't under hit it and snooker yourself behind the yellow, there is quite a large target area. If you get past the yellow, you should at least have some kind of shot on the black.

Do you use a titanium ferrule? I can't quite tell from the video. If you do, what are your thoughts on them vs brass? Would you recommend switching to someone that's used a brass ferrule for 14 years?

I use a brass ferrule and I have used a titanium before however I don’t personally see any difference.

Love your videos but , how long does it take you to get the ' feel ' of a new table such as in a pub , is there anything you change ? .

It’s very tough on n a pub unless you can have a frame on your own before you play. Getting a feel for it is really if you have the chance to practice on your own for half an hour to an hour 👍

Best thing you can do is not play at the pub. The tables are horrific everywhere. Find a good 8 ball hall and travel to it. You'll get used to the same table if you play regularly. If you only play casually down the pub, then these videos are like watching chef tutorials when you eat ready meals.

@@graeme5060 Not to mention no pub players actually know the bloody rules 🤣 The terms "blackball rules" or "world rules" mean nothing to them, they just play by whatever weird made up rules have been taught to them by the next pub player(s).

I’ve always preferred maple as they feel smoother and I find that they don’t get sticky

Hi Greg, Could you explain how to position the cue with your trailing hand when applying side to the cue ball please to counteract the cue ball jumping to the side. Thanks

Can you help me understand exactly what you mean?

@@GregBattenpool when i put side on the cue ball i naturally keep the cue straight, but also naturally the cue ball moves off to the side. So i was just wonering is there any movement to counteract the cue ball wanting to spin off i.e. do u need to angle your cue any differently compares to if you hit the cue ball in the middle? Its just something that i seem to struggle with when putting side on

@@deanog3205 great question and thanks for clarifying what you meant. You cueing should always stay the same for every shot however (where you aim on the object ball is what you need to adjust) for example if you have a half ball pot with no side then your aim should be exactly half ball.. but is you are putting left hand side on the cue ball then you need to aim around three quarter ball because the side spin throws the cue ball off the line of the shot. I hope that’s helpful and I’ll try and do a video soon to explain this in more detail.

@@GregBattenpool Thanks Greg that was very helpful and if you did do a quick video to help visually then that would be great too. I only really started playing pool about 6 months ago and your vids have been a god send whilst starting out👍
