I’m pretty sure. The first side was 256 and the second bracket on the other side of the equation is 10 so the right side of the division sign turned out 10 + 2 which made it 256 / 10 + 2 = 27.6

Unfortunately you have got it wrong, for multiplication and division there is no convention that you do it in order that it is written. You have to add brackets to say the order or else it is ambiguous. Alternatively you can write it on two lines.

For instance 12 ÷ 3 x 2 is the one line notation of either 12 12 ----------- = 2 or --------- * 2 = 8 3 x 2 3 Both are equally valid, with the 2 line notation you have the order suggested by the notation itself, something you lose when you go to one line. If you always do division first, or left to right with 12 ÷ 3 x 2 then you can only get the 2nd answer of the two written in 2 line notation. What the originator intended has become lost in the move to one line notation. The solution is to use extra brackets to make it unambiguous, ie (12 ÷ 3 ) x 2 or 12 ÷ ( 3 x 2 ) Oliver Knill at Harvard with Ambiguous PEMDAS and also " Order of arithmetic operations; in particular the 48/2(9+3)" by George Bergman of Berkeley both do into this in more details. It's wrong, BODMAS = Bracket order, division, Multiplication, Addition, subtraction. (3) is the order which tells us that 3 to the power of 1. So order should be done second. So 1 is the right answer.

If you are depending on rules like this it simply shows that you don't understand the calculations you are doing. That may get you through in situations such as exams where you might be asked to juggle numbers without context, but in a real world application you would need to understand the structure of any non-trivial calculation you needed to perform. Lacking that understanding would remove you from the pool of people who should be trusted to do the task. We don't need any more videos about BODMAS, PEDMAS or whatever you want to call it. Instead, why not illustrate some real-world non-trivial applications of maths where the context determines the structure of the calculation and the order of operations?

If you are less than 10 years old and in primary school, please pay attention to this lesson. If you are in middle, high school or university, please ignore bodmas and pay attention to the rules of substitution, algebra, factorisation and expansion.

Start with multiplication. 3x4 is 12 and then go to addition. 2+12 is 14. There is your answer. I hope I helped :)
