Thanks to your videos I'm making seat covers for a set of custom seats out of vegtan leather. But I don't have a sewing machine that will sew that weight of leather I'm using. So it all hand stitching using a stitching iron to pre-punch the wholes. I am doing exactly what you are doing because its the only way I can see to get everything to align.

Would you recommend any kind of vinyl for outdoor that will take weather maybe foam as well??
@oldschoolautoupholstery
@oldschoolautoupholstery 5 ай бұрын
Hello Ruf, Thank you so much for saying so! Yea, just go for it! I think you will do just fine with your backhoe seat. Really just use a good thick automotive grade vinyl will do. Marine vinyl lasts about the same but more expensive. The foam is protected by the vinyl, so a medium density will do. Hello Marian, Thank you so much for saying so! I really appreciate it. I guess I really don't have an answer to that as I do not think seam allowance is rocket science. I really don't pay so much attention to it. Sometimes, I might use a tiny or almost no seam allowance (Like the Ferrari seats I am doing right now). Sometimes a larger seam allowance (Like boat seats or furniture) depending on the project. You see what I mean? Please keep liking and watching!

when you cut the vinyl why don't you add the 1/2 in to be sewn in the seam?
@oldschoolautoupholstery

Hello Debbie, I think some people call it a sewing allowance so I have been told... I knew that the vinyl will stretch some and I also did not want any wrinkles from too much material. Standards for automotive and motorcycles are 3/8 inch. Marine are 3/8 to 1/2 inch while furniture can be 1/2 inch. Really it is not rocket science and anyone will do. Just sayin'. I need to learn to add to a Dodge truck seat cushion. Patch where the frame came through. Have you addressed that in a video I may have missed? The current seat is upholstery material, but poor quality. Suggestions for where to buy quality replacement material?
