I also interested about this. From xls sheet get the app with 3 screen, automaticly built connection... so great. If I need to change the text field at edit screen to dropdown list, clear how this write the test to the xls list... but not clear how to get data also from same xls sheet from separated table, where I set the list for dropdown list... so this "litle step" missing how I able to set in the app edit screen this connections... Can You help us? Regards, István

I have followed your examples in your video with my own data. I have edited the EditForm1 sheet and changed many of the data cards fields to drop down lists. If functions just fine until you have to Edit the existing record, it doesn't seem to be holding the existing value. I have entered the If(EditForm1.Mode = FormMode.Edit, Parent.Default, " ") as the Default value for the drop down. The data source for that dropdown is an Excel file in one drive. All of the other drop downs hold their value but they are data sources that are static imports from Excel.

Hey Shane, thanks for making your content. I'm new to PowerApps and think they could be useful in my workplace to give the team more user friendly data entry tools. My test document is a purchase order summary and I'm hoping/thinking there's a way to use a powerapps that will also then create a word or pdf Purchase Order sheet to get signed off by the requester and manager for approval. But it's baby steps for now so perhaps you're next video will take me there. P.S. frustrating that excel files in sharepoint aren't yet compatible with PowerApps. I see that's been in progress for over a year.

Thanks for watching Chris. Do you know where your idea immediately takes me? To Flow. us.flow.microsoft.com/en-us/connectors/ Imagine having your PowerApp trigger a Flow that sends the info over to DocuSign or something similar. Great video, I am trying to use PowerApps to create a Word document. My PowerApps application contains a couple of rich text fields, which I would like to use in the Word document. The Power Automate connector does not support rich text. Do you know a better approach to create a Word document using the rich text fields from PowerApps application to convert to a Word document? Thanks
@ShanesCows4 жыл бұрын
Rich text control outputs text but it adds the html tags to show the formatting. Maybe that will help you get it to work?
@garygrunson97644 жыл бұрын
The connector only accepts plan text as input, so if the rich text field is converted to HTML, getting the HTML back to Rich Text in Word is main problem. It does not render the HTML within the Word document, just displays it. In the past, InfoPath's rich text field provided us a way to use SSRS to export it to a Word document and it supported rich text. We are not allowed to use InfoPath going forward. Sort of lost, unless MS adds some support for rich text or HTML in the connector.

Yes, it is a live connection to the datasource.

Hey Shane, One question I have been wondering about is that when sharing an app, you are reminded to make sure that the users also have access to the data source. For example, when I have excel in one drive as a data source, I have not seen any video as to how to provide access to this data source. Do you have a video, or resource that shows that? Thanks

I don't Benben because every data source is different. 😐

Excellent video Shane, What is the delegation limit for Excel. I'm keen to link a sharepoint list to powerbi through an app. I have managed to embed my app in powerbi and add to the Sharepoint List through The app in powerbi. However when I link the list to PowerBi I'm struggling to get the list which I have displayed in a table to refresh or update. Basically I want the table in PowerBi to update once I add to the SP list in the embedded app. Would you be able to put together a video on this perhaps. Regards Jamie

Hi Shane! Thank you for the videos. It was very informative. However, I realized in your video, you made the Excel file and using the Excel to make the apps but my question is how do I display the Excel data stored in OneDrive back to Excel on my existing apps? I managed to do the list but I'm not sure how to do the Detail Screen. Another thing, my apps is connected to Outlook. I would like each users to be able to see the data that they submitted. The Excel that I have is a consolidation of every information submitted by all employees. Quick example, if Shane Young is from IT department, he can only see the data that was submitted from IT department and not other department. Same goes for other employees. So, how do I customized that? Thank you so much!
@ShanesCows4 жыл бұрын
The gallery will show all records from the excel by default. If you want you can filter the data by data such as creator or department. Look to my videos on filter gallery for an example.

Great intro. However, my app (same as yours) would only display the first couple hundred records in the file. Is there a file size limit? Ignore my question. I just saw below that someone else had asked. However, the link to "delegation" was as clears as mud!

Love your videos, they have helped me get started in powerapps quickly! Is there a way to manage a customer excel file of 13K lines? I'm working on a proof of concept, Each customer is assigned a branch and I have made a branch gallery that filters a customer gallery to only show customers of that branch, but I am still running into a limit of the number of customers I can search? Thanks!

Long story short Excel probably isn't the best solution for that many records. I would recommend moving to either a SQL database or CDS. Is that an option for you?

Hi @ShaneYoung! For the app to run correctly, does the user need permission to BOTH the PowerApp and the datasource (the Excel file in OneDrive)?

Question, I have a bounch of textboxes that are collected and then sent to an excel table source with a forall function in a button. Is it possible to sort that source table by column date after the data is sent? Meaning when I open the excel file, is already sort by that column, is it possible? This is important as I'm using a Lookup function in some textboxes and I need to bring the latest data from that table.

Your collegue needs access to the Excel file. You will have to share it with them. It is one of the reasons I don't love Excel as a datasource and instead recommend SharePoint.

Look for a video on Patch. You could use that function to create a new record in the second table using values of the current record. Then delete the current record.

Excel is a tough data source. Only one person can have the file open at a time. I would recommend changing to SharePoint or another more scalable data source.
@mapangasar94735 жыл бұрын
Just need a little trick hope this will help. 1. Create a separate query file from the data source and use for viewing only. Dont forget to place a button to refresh it in case there are data that were newly added or modified. 2. Use the raw data source to store the actual information. Excel can be opened simultaneously but cannot save information at the same time. Give it a try.
