Thank you for the cleaning tips and the rosin tips, very helpful. I look forward to learning to play Glary's Tune #2 when I am able, I am currently working on Beginner Lesson 2. I spent a week on Beginner Lesson 1 and now doing a week on Lesson 2, am practicing 1 to 2 hours a day learning to play. You are a great teacher and thank you for taking the time/effort to post this learning series of videos, MUCH appreciated! You convey the techniques very clearly, it's just a matter of practicing what you teach and when comfortable with it moving to next video. Effectively teaching how to play the fiddle in a video medium presents challenges and you are spot on with your method. Again THANK YOU and happy fiddling!!!

Glad you are enjoying learning to play, it gets easier in time and becomes a lot of fun.

I'd been told to clean the rosin off my violin's body as it will eventually damage the instrument's finish. And I periodically clean the strings as well. Thanks very much!

That's a good idea!

Thanks for the tips and tricks besides Glary's Tune no 2, which is one of the happy ones (to my ear). Would like to persuade my second- hand Sandner to compose too, but guess it would take quite a 'cultural journey'.

You need to bribe your Sandner with the offer of new strings :)

Thanks for your informative videos, peakfiddler! I’ve just bought myself a cheap(ish) violin on eBay and am about to embark on the journey of learning to play the fiddle. I’ve been playing electric guitar for over 30 years and acoustic for a few, but decided to make things really difficult for myself! Apologies if I’ve missed it in amongst your videos, bu what rosin and strings (brand and gauge) do you use? And does this make much difference? Many thanks in advance. Keep up with the videos, your talent leaves me in awe as well as inspired.

Hi Pete, I tend to favour Pirastro Tonica medium gauge as they won't break the bank. It's an expensive business to try out different brands of string, but the tonicas seem to last for a long time without losing tone. Regarding the rosin, I have no preference as they all seem to be as good as each other, even the cheap ones.

@@peakfiddler many thanks for your reply. I’ll give those strings a go.
