Hi! Kate-san, you really don't have to remember all the kanji before learning grammer. That's very very very stressful and endless. Even I don't know if I've mastered all the Kanji. What I recommend you should do is remembering Hiragana and Katakana first and go to basic grammar lessons and remember some verbs and Kanji gradually as the grammar lessons go because there should be some Kanji included in the lessons.

These Japanese lessons by Chihiro are really structured and easy to follow, her pronunciation is also very clear and easy to understand. Enjoy watching her videos and revising them.
@JapanesePod10111 жыл бұрын
Hi, you're right. Some fonts show "sa" and "ki" such way (connected to the curve), but that's an animation version of letter, not the correct way. The correct way is of course what Chihiro shows on the video. Any learning materials in Japan, including those for Japanese kids, have the same style as Chihiro shows. So, trust the video lesson and you'll be fine ;) JapanesePod101,com

Hi, you mean, why "shougi" is written as しょうぎ? しょ with little よ, is one sound "sho". Hope this answers to your question :) JapanesePod101,com
@JapanesePod10112 жыл бұрын
It's just the difference between a direct translation and a freer translation. "Uso" literally translates to "lie", but it is also used in the sense of "no way" or "you're joking!".
@JapanesePod10111 жыл бұрын
hmm, that's a tricky one! We can't directly make the word "sweaty" as adjective in Japanese. It'd be "ase o kaita" to describe such condition. JapanesePod101,com

It may make it harder to learn how to write them properly at first. I would practice the characters on a piece of paper that is straight in the beginning - then when you get used to writing them, you can angle your paper if you need to :)

@JapanesePod10113 жыл бұрын
@zerogx5 "seki" has several meanings in Japanese depending on the kanji used, but two of the most common are "seat"(席) and "cough" (咳).

@supernisen いし (ishi) is indeed "rock" or "stone", but in the video she actually said うし (ushi) which means "cow". They sound similar, so be careful! :)

I'm surprised at how easy this is to learn. I recently went to Japan for four weeks and I remember thinking it would be virtually impossible to learn to read and write but I know the first 15 Hiragana now and it's taken me about 2 weeks. I am slightly dreading the point where I know all the Hiragana and Katakana and have to start learning Kanji.
@ReMeDy_TV15 жыл бұрын
I used to be in the same boat, so I know how you feel. It truly does take a lot of practice and even once you know them, you'll find your reading speed is very slow as you're processing each kana independently. I got all of my practice by writing when I was bored in-class, writing on the back of trashed receipts (at where I worked on slow days), and writing on the paper table mats at a breakfast restaurant I frequented. Just keep writing them again and again, or use visual imagery to help.
@JapanesePod10113 жыл бұрын
@TheChainsOFMisery The curve was just part of her style, as you said :) It is not important to have it in there when you write the character し!
Thanks so much! I am in year 7 and Japanese is so difficult you have no idea how... unassistful the teachers are at my school they just give me a bunch of work, which I get nothing out of. You have no idea how much this helps me. I will keep studying with Japanesepod 101!

However, I heard that Kanji has like 4000 symbols which are all really complicated! It'll take me like the rest of my life to learn Kanji and THEN ive gotta get onto the grammar and verbs part -.- I want to live in Japan when I'm older so I really want to master this!!

Thank you very much! I don't know why but I just love the japanese language. I think it sounds really beautiful, much more beautiful than english. I really want to learn Japanese, but it's a really difficult language. My father isn't happy about that, because he thinks I should learn Spanish because it's more famous than Japanese. Maybe he's right, but I prefer learning Japanese, even if it's just used in Japanese. Thank you very much :)

There's a book (I think 3 different volumes) called "Remembering the Kanji" by Heisig that I've heard was great for learning the 2000 most often used Kanji. I'm not sure when the right time for reading the book is (having just began starting to learn Japanese myself) but it's worth reading the reviews of the book on Amazon.

japanese is quite simple in itself. (or so i say after 1 week of study) but when you want to learn to read it it becomes complicated. :P first you need to learn japanese words (probably using romanji, aka this alphabet). then you need to master hiragana and after that katakana. but you STILL can't actually read almost any japanese until you learn kanji as well which is as far as i know a life long project. D:
