I have been making magic pillowcases for my family, I use French seams to make the inside just as nice and finished as the outside.

I'm making a linen jacket with silk accents (pockets, button tabs, etc.); a copy of one I've worn for 10+ years. The original has french seams at shoulder and side seams. perfect for linen!!

I’m going to attempt some summer tops, skirts, and dresses. I think this would give them a proper finish. The fabric is rayon or a cotton/linen blend.

This finish would be beautiful for your summer wardrobe!

I'm using a French seam on an heirloom baptism gown that I am making. I will use it joining the front and back as well as the lining side seams. I just think it is a nicer look than serging those seams.

I've been looking for a seam that will allow me to increase the size of my Flat Sheet without a noticeable seam showing. With one change I will be sewing down the seam as in your Flat Felled Seam tutorial. Thanks

Why do you press open the seam if you're going to fold it back onto itself when it is encased?

I am brand new to sewing and I know I am gonna sound like an idiot but i have to ask. The stitch width setting on the sewing machine moves the needle to measure desired width of seam from needle to edge of pressure foot?
@SewingPartsOnline2 жыл бұрын
It has a couple of purposes. :) The stitch width determines how far the stitch will go from side to side. Let's just say, you have selected a zig zag and the stitch width is 3.0. That means that your zig zag stitch is going to be 3mm wide. Yes, depending on your machine, when you have selected a straight stitch, you can also use your stitch width settings to move the needle where you need it to be. You can use the right side of foot as the guide (personally, I like doing that) or you can use the guide lines on your needle plate. Just be mindful that your needle has to be in the proper position (per your manual) in order for you to achieve an accurate seam allowance when the guides are used. I hope that this helps.

How does this fare for side seams on a fitted blouse if it curves for the waistline?
@SewingPartsOnline2 жыл бұрын
It would look very nice; however, you would want to make sure that it's comfy fabric. With the french seam, it's not stitched down flat, so if it is rough fabric, it can be scratchy. This is not my video, but she explains it well. :) I hope this helps. kzbin.info/www/bejne/rIaTdamho8iqidU
