About this video:
Landing patterns are part of the process of becoming a better skydiver. Why do we need landing patterns:
- To land safely
- To avoid collision with others
- To avoid collision with obstacles or the ground
Before boarding the plane, you always need to have a landing pattern planed. It will depend on the dropzone landing area, your canopy & the wind conditions.
Enjoy!

Hey Dear! I just finished my AFF course and have at the moment 15 solo jumps... i'm 180cm and about 85kg. So at the moment i fly a 240 or 220sqft... with the landing/flare i dont have problems... sometimes a bit fast when i didnt finished my flare properly... but with the landig in the "zone" i have problems... ( i miss my point of landing always by 10-20meters... they all told me its about the feeling and you have to get into that... DZ, wind, altitude and all that stuff... in the AFF we had radios so the instructor told us at the beginning when to make the pattern and flare... btw i watched your videos already before i did my aff course! It helped me a lot! Thanks for your great work! Blue Skies! Meilleure Salutation de la Suisse ( mais allemand )

Hi how r u. I never get to take a landing course. Do u have any tips on landing flare. Do u do a 2 stage or single? I have good and bad landings. Im not consistent. Its so hard to get nice soft landings every jump.i just do understand. Sometimes i land hard and my legs are sore for a week. I have 106 jumps.any tips would be helpful. Blue skies
@SkydiveVibes
@SkydiveVibes 5 жыл бұрын
The best would be that you discuss this with a coach and ask him to look at you went you land. But in brief, I look the ground in front of me (about 15 feet away) and not at my feet. I flare in 2 stage and hold me from touching the ground until I slowed down enough by completing my flare (hands fully down). I also highly recommend a canopy piloting course like Flight-1. It helped me so much.

I just got back into skydiving this fall after doing 26 jumps back in 1991. I only got 2 jumps in 2018 before winter come. Back in 1991 we didn't have the landing pattern. I like the new box landing pattern at are drop zone.

Hi Catherine, I am from India and plan to do skydiving course. How should I go about it?
@hernandarion_
@hernandarion_ 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Catherine, I've checked your videos and I'd like to know a tip from you, how can I avoid the pressure in my ears when you are descending and when you open the canopy. I am preparing to do the course AFF but in my Tandem this thing it was really bad for me. I'd like to know "exercises" to avoid it.
@SkydiveVibes
@SkydiveVibes 5 жыл бұрын
Hey Hernan, I'll answer this in an upcoming Q&A video. ;) But once under canopy, I simply press my nose and try to gently "blow air through my ears" (ok this isn't what happens but it's the best way to explain ;) )
@mikeserrano3813
@mikeserrano3813 4 жыл бұрын
Hernan..hi I have just done tandem once so far but fell in love with skydiving..but it has been a moth and my ears are still killing me my doctors say if I'm going to continue which I am I may need to get tubes in my ears..such as small children do ..its no big deal..she also said some people can get away with taking claritin prior to jumping..the pressure was so very painful on dive ..
@talmorkliman1709
@talmorkliman1709 2 жыл бұрын
I ruptured my eardrum (small rupture, 2 week recovery) during my first tandem, and during my second AFF jump. I started using a nose plug to equalize during freefall, (3 times) and under canopy (3 times) which really helped. Just know it adds some distraction to skydive prep and skydive activity. I tried without the nose plugs and used my fingers (during freefall, that helped) but during my check dive to get my license, I didn't do any equalizing and it was uncomfortable for my ears. Another big thing that helps is to equalize all the way up in the plane (even when people open the door) by the "swallowing saliva technique" that made a big difference for ear pain in skydiving. Lastly, a congestion OTC for those runny nose days are a precaution. I personally don't want to compromise my hearing sense for the sport so I go to great heights to prevent ear pain. Hope it was helpful.

@SteepVisions

If I was coding a robot to land a parachute this is how I would code it. I see so many base jumpers taking skydiving advice and they always end up in the trees and even skydivers with 150 jumps seem to overshoot for no reason because they fly like robots that only pull more break down or up to adjust their target. The best way I've found is to always aim to overshoot and then readjust with last second/last minute s turns and a swoop in to finish it off with a perfect flare - especially when you're flying your base parachutes because they flare like crap and the more speed you get down the smoother the landing will be.

I'm am a paraplegic , on my way to my 1st landing . What if I cannot use my legs for steering ... any suggestions ? I do have a concern for landing , don't want injuries . It's the only part I am really worried about for the most part.
@SkydiveVibes
@SkydiveVibes 4 жыл бұрын
One of my friend is too and he has been jumping for 10-15 years! He simply always land sitting and someone comes to pick him up on the landing zone with his wheel chair. He also straps his legs in freefall. You don't absolutely need your legs or hips to steer.

If you fly 1,000ft into the wind (your last leg) ur gonna be landing WAY OFF! You don't start your 1st leg and only go downwind 300ft and then 2nd leg at 600ft... No no no!
@kennymiessner6584
@kennymiessner6584 2 жыл бұрын
Sorry this is wrong. It's a 1,000 downwind, 2nd crosswind at 600ft and then 300ft into the wind or upwind NOT A 1,000FT upwind! After 100ft you fly straight... No more anything... Go straight and that's where ur gonna land

@BurninatorTheTrogdor Жыл бұрын
They put you on a large canopy and you have a radio hopefully. Study the pattern but remember it doesn't have to be perfect. Watch other new and pro jumpers land as much as you can and try not to be over anything you wouldn't want to land on. You should be testing your flare power and turns after opening anyways so you get a good idea. Or just do a couple tandems and let them know you want to hold the toggles a little bit. It's not as hard as it seems trust me.
