When I was learning to ski , back in the 70's I was mostly behind a less powerful boat, so coming up on one ski a different technique was needed. Just one foot in the ski with the other leg trailing, then once up put the other foot in. On a more powerful boat, both feet in is fine. I remember doing a dock start behind a Mastercraft. Also I was told to hold the handle with one hand up and the other down. As opposed to both hands down when going on two skis. Good video though.

What a fantastic video! I too wish I had this information when I started in the mid 80's. Growing up there was nothing cooler than seeing a really good skier throw up walls of water. Now it seems like most kids would rather be pulled on tubes or those inflatable couches which is unfortunate.

And the mini slalom course/driving the boat outside the course between boat guides and outside buoy. All "GREAT TIPS" very informative and good reminders. Would like a video on advanced slalom skiing if you don't have one out yet...22 off and up would be great.

When you demonstrate bodybpossition at 21,50 you have the hands opposite what you learned earlier or did i misunderstand? I have hobby skiing since childhood and this vid is great since i have trouble to learn beginners how to do when i tow them. It is one thing to ski and another to guide beginners. The best vid i have found so far. Thanks.
@skitrav
@skitrav 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the kind words. Please share 😎. The hands position is dependent on the foot forward for slalom. Refer 19:50 in the video. For learning on 2 skis, both palms down. If you left foot forward, left palm down, and right palm up. Or vice versa if you right foot forward.

From watching your video today, it seems like I should be a right-foot forward skier instead! So, I tried to ski switching my feet but I couldn’t even get up. Do you suggest I relearn how to get up and ski with my right foot forward or continue to try to get better with my left foot forward?

Thank you so much for making this video... You have given all of us some great tips on how to get started... I can Ski on two skis however have yet to really try slalom. Just a quick question around how the boat is pulling the skier. As my boat doesnt have a waketower, can you still wakeboard as an adult without a waketower? :-) Any further guidance would be appreciated :-)
@skitrav
@skitrav 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching. You definitely need to try slalom. HO Skis have some great products to learn to slalom. Yes. Definitely you can wakeboard without the tower. The tower just helps with lift and for better jumps a little bit but is not absolutely nescary. It depends on your level but if you just want to do some basic tricks and jumps you Don't need the tower

The problem with waterskiing is that it's cost-prohibitive. I just saw an ad in the boat trader for a used MasterCraft ski boat. The price was $270,000.00. New ones go for over $300,000.00. A lot of folks can't afford houses that cost less than that. This is a sport for the wealth-privileged.
@dougtripp4161

granted new boats are expensive. But you don't need a new boat to ski.. Market place has hundreds of boats under $10k you can ski behind. Depending where you live, you don't need a boat. There are cable parks and clubs you can ski at for little $$

Once you get to 15 off x 32 mph, do you recommend going up in speed and staying at 15 off or go to 22 off and stay at 32 mph? I've tried both, sometimes I can do either, but NOT consistent. Thanks again, April is amazing!
@skitrav
@skitrav 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the question. 15 off at 32mph then 15 off at 34mph. Try to run the passes again and again at the slower speeds and then move up in smaller increments. Ie. Try 33mph so that the jump from 32mph to 34mph is not as big too. Also visit the camp at cobleskischool for further lessons! Its easier when you ski alot too!

Can you ski with the rope tied to the low points of a boat? Or will doing that pull you down into the water since the rope will be at a downward angle from the skier to the boat?
@skitrav
@skitrav Жыл бұрын
Yes you can however if your rope is very short, this will make it harder. Having a rope that pulls you up,ie a normal pylon height or on a tower is a better way to do it and makes it easier to learn.

I feel like the, "throw them in the water and they'll learn how to swim," technique works more in water skiing. Precautions in water skiing like weights, throw off their weight and they won't learn as quickly to control their own weight rather with external weight. I know why people would use a tie for the skis being together, don't use them. Get hurt, learn to keep the skis together. You can't slalom with tied skis.

Hey guys After you have spent a while doing it yourself, try a day or better yet a week at a ski school. You will be pleasantly shocked at your own abilities when you know what to do on the water. Who am I ? I am an old guy now who started out as a “recreational skier” from ages 6 - 21...then went on to become a tournament skier who started as a novice skier in 1976 and advanced to Open Men skier in 1979. Along the way, I qualified and skied in the US Team trials and the Masters at Calloway Gardens, won State, Regional and Nationals gold (twice each in slalom and tricks) and set 14 regional records and two national records along the way. I took lessons from some of the top skiers in the world and later even beat them in record capability tournaments! I studied their technique on super 8 video in the winter and perfected my own technique in the spring/summer. There was no KZbin back then...and lots of seasoned veteran skiers asked me how I advanced so quickly. It was by studying my 1970’s version of KZbin combined with many hours of practice....
