Man, I've been saying it wrong for 23 years now :( My wife is Vietnamese and never corrected me. She will be surprised when I say it correctly tonight. Thank you!

1. With tớ cậu, does the pronoun switch back and forth depending on the speaker and subject, like the English I -you or like Tôi - bạn? 2. Would you consider, or is there a context in which you would consider, using tau- may to be rude or uneducated or lower class? 3. What is the difference between yêu and thương?
@applefoodie4 жыл бұрын
I had the exact same first question as you lol
@wonderfullife9043 жыл бұрын
Tôi is a formal neutral personal pronoun, used only in business, amongst mature people, politicians.... very formal. Tớ-bạn, hoặc tao-mày are used for friends. Tao-may pair ís not necessary rude, or low classed. But if Tao-May is used in other context (not amongst friends) considered rude, or very very casual. Yêu is used more in sexual relationship, but nowadays, people use it to express Love in general like in English. Thương is more of showing sympathy....
@LongJosh-lq4qi5 ай бұрын
tao-mày depends on the context may act as term of endearing. Close friends often use that to address each other.

In the video, you explain how to say it to people you know, but what if it's like.. To an idol? Example: "I love One Direction so much!" - what would you then say? And what about when you say a thing you love? "I love this game" or something? :P
@HoaNguyen-te6nl8 жыл бұрын
Hi Andrea, there are different pronouns you can use depending on the situation. I'd suggest "Mình" (meaning I) is the most neutral to those situations. You can say: Mình yêu One Direction rất nhiều (I love One Direction so much). Mình yêu trò chơi này (I love this game). Mình yêu... :)

If you want to say that you love something (not someone or some animal) you can use thích (like) or yêu thích instead just love.

How is that different from thương? Cảm ơn nhiều
@Tiengvietoi7 жыл бұрын
Hi, thương is used more in the South and yêu is used more in the North. In the North, thương is also usually used to refer to parents and children's love or sometimes it means to feel sorry for someone. Hope this helps :)
@not-so-smartaleck89876 жыл бұрын
+TVO -so in the Southern accent, a man saying "I love you" to a woman would say "Anh thương em", not "Anh yêu em"? (Might be worth knowing...who knows? :) )
@longtrinh34105 жыл бұрын
Yêu thương is a duo, not just north - south different, yêu = love, thương means something like 'want to take care of/ want to ensure someone's happiness as if that is your duty'. 'Đáng yêu' only means lovely but 'đáng thương' has the connotation that someone is pitiful, which is derived from the above meaning. In the north, it is not often used when you speak to someone, but can be used in writing or when that person is not the receiver.
@sgcl106584 жыл бұрын
@@not-so-smartaleck8987 Yêu has romantic notation. Thương means love but it doesn't mean romance. You don't say I "yêu" my kids/ parents, yêu is usually used for couples only.

You say:'Anh yêu em' if you're active, and vice versa'Em yêu anh' Or 'Tớ yêu cậu' sounds very cute
@applefoodie4 жыл бұрын
@@angthithuong1893 Funny, I've heard a variety of opinions on this. I've heard some friends say that if the active is a lot younger, it may feel awkward for him to use em to refer to his partner, and may prefer to assign pronouns based on age rather than role. But then again, I also have a friend who's an active, and he says any passive who uses "anh" to refer to himself is offputting, lol.

A very non-Vietnamese accent when she is speaking English, rather more similar to a typical Indonesian americanised English.

Your sound quality is terrible… it makes it very hard to hear the differences… first lose the music… second shoot the video in a space with furniture etc so you get no reverb… this is not meant to criticize but to help you… 😀😀
