And don't forget that Rotterdam is also the largest seaport of Europe. Around Rotterdam you can travel through the harbour area and have some impressive views. I would also strongly recommend to visit Rotterdam during the first weekend of September, for the World Port Days taking place every year during this weekend. During the World Port Days the city of Rotterdam is one big festival of ships, water, music and fireworks. There are several maritime demonstrations given on the Maas river, as well as the opportunity to get on an excursion to the greatest companies (such as hyper modern container terminals) throughout the whole Rotterdam port area. These are the days Rotterdam is on it's best. Don't know why the video doesn't mention any of this, but keep this in mind if you want to see more than the 'every day' Rotterdam.

Willem Bruins you are right the real harbour is awesome and most people wont see it unfortunately because its so distant from the centre these days, Id like to make a separate full video about the port side one day

Great Video! Really appreciated. Our 2 children are moving for their Bachelors to Rotterdam & Utrecht and my wife and myself are relocating to the Netherlands in the medium term. If possible a following similar video of pros vs cons between these 2 lovely cities would be great. Where do we find the cheapest apartments (not so cheap...I know) between these 2? Thanks!
@jvos4 жыл бұрын
Rotterdam is on average cheaper, but catching up. Advantage of Utrecht is that it is a more “classic type of city” and is centered in the country so everything is always close by. There is a website/app called “Funda” that shows all houses for sale/rent and to be build.

I didn't realize the 3 biggest cities in the Netherlands, Amsterdam, Rotterdam and The Hague were so near each other, you can travel all 3 cities by bus. I plan to go all 3 cities. Do you have suggestions which bus company to take because I'll be carrying heavy luggage with me.
@LearnDutchlanguageandculture5 жыл бұрын
You could check flixbus or eurolines, otherwise by train is also very easy connection and possible with luggage, many people also use the train to get to schiphol airport

You might notice the sun will not reflect in one window to the other. Thanks for showing me Rotterdam.

Nice video, yet some corrections have to be made, the floating bubbles on the Rijnhaven are no more there, then you forgot to mention the Eiland van Brienenoord which is accessible near the Feyenoord stadium in South Rotterdam also the Schoonoord tuin next to the Euromastpark must not be forgotten as well as the recently opent Depot museum from Boymans is a fantastic building.

Could you please tell me in average which is the price per month for a single apartment/ room in Rotterdam and how much money are required for other expenses such as food? Of course it depends but it would be nice to have a general idea :) thank you!

Andrea Brambilla hi thats great! A student room would be around 300 a month. Food in Netherlands is pretty cheap but depends on your menu, for one person economy style maybe 120 euro a month ;)
@mickeydew18967 жыл бұрын
If going to the RSM you might consider the stusent hotel. Close to campus, vibrant international student life and I believe rooms are 900E a month all inclusive (the 300 seen below is just bare rent ;-) )

@LearnDutchlanguageandculture7 жыл бұрын
Marion Church thats great! Flats in Rotterdam are much cheaper and are more available then in Amsterdam!
@whodrankmymilk17 жыл бұрын
Learn Dutch language and culture I assumed that's the way it would be. I am a retired American veteran and the reason I am interested is because I've just had a major change in my life that will give me the freedom to travel for a while. I spent a week in Ireland in 2011 and that's where my love for Europe began. I want to move to the Netherlands because I feel like it's a centrally located European country and would give me the opportunity to visit all the places I want to see. I love America but I have an opportunity to travel and I would be a fool not to experience some of what the world has to offer. And I figure Europe with its deeply rooted traditions and history would be a great place to start.
@LearnDutchlanguageandculture7 жыл бұрын
Marion Church thats sounds good, and you are right, funny thing is, al the big Dutch cities are within an hour travel, and indeed from Holland everything is real close, like we have a train that goes from Rotterdam to Paris in 3 hours, you can drive to Brussel in 1.5 hours etcetera

How is Rotterdam cool? There are way better cities in the Netherlands. 1. Modern architecture: The Cubehouses in Rotterdam are imitations of the Cubehouses in Helmond. 2. €170 milion for a beautiful market hall, but where entrepreneurs can't get around. Local cafes and restaurants have to close to save the market hall. Cool right? Worthless policy! 3. Rotterdam Central Station is modern and unique, but not really in a positive way. You can say the same about the modern stations in Tilburg, Utrecht and Arnhem. If you want to see a station 'worth seeing', I would recommend visiting the stations of Valkenburg, The Hague HS, Amsterdam Central or Groningen! 4. Wilhelmina Pier? Really? ..I get Hotel New York..but the rest is ugly as hell... 5. The Erasmusbridge..is OK I Guess? But what about the St. Servaasbridge in Maastricht, Bluebridge in Amsterdam, The Slauerhoffbridge in Leeuwarden or The Crossing in Nijmegen. In my opinion all more intriguing or more beautiful than the Erasmus Bridge. 6. More space in the Randstadarea... right. There are protests against the a hand-drifting construction drive of Rotterdam and the Randstad as a whole. there are enough spacious cities i can think off. Den Bosch is a provincial capital and is literally in the middle of nature. Literally every city outside the Randstad has more space to relax 'Zwolle, Leeuwarden, Nijmegen, Breda, even Tilburg and Eindhoven. 7. Splashboats are really cool, i admit...but boattours aren't really rare in the Netherlands. If you like to spend your holiday in an industrial area of Rotterdam, go ahead. But you can also visit the cities where the canals run throughout the city. Dordrecht, Amsterdam, Utrecht Maastricht, Leeuwarden, Breda, Delft, Groningen. At Giethoorn and Den Bosch you can even go by boat tour to places in the city, where you can not get on foot. 8. Bars and restaurants...how rare... 9. A Museumsquare of Museamarea...Where in the Netherlands have I seen that before? Amsterdam, Den Bosch, Utrecht, The Hague and the diminutive old center of Dordrecht. 10. Shoppingstreets? I a City? How rare... I give up ;)

Rotterdam reminded me of a small Toronto or New York when i visited last summer. Amsterdam doesnt really have that big city feeling also many ppl of different ethnicities in Rotterdam never knew that.
@ArchitectureRookie4 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I thought I was the only one here that isn't a fan of Rotterdam, at least the new Rotterdam. If Rotterdam was like the way it was before WW2 I would love it. I think it's modern architecture is very ugly and bland, as is all modern architecture. Rotterdam's ultramodern character is soulless and not unique, you can find this stuff all over the world, like in US, Canada, Japan, China, ect. I wouldn't go to Europe to see futuristic cities, I'd go to Europe to escape the modern cities because as hate living in a modern city. Amsterdam, The Hague, Utrecht >>>>> Rotterdam.
