Amazing how smelling a fragrance on someone else is like a completely different experience. I've been embarrassed on more than one occasion not being able to identify a fragrance from my own collection wafting off of someone else. Potentially a form of confirmation bias? Slightly different but similar embarrassment: I wasn’t sure I still liked my Miss Dior EDP 2021. I sprayed it on a blotter but didn’t label it. The next day I smelled it and thought omg which of my samples is this, I have to get this perfume…only to realise it was my Miss Dior 😅

I love this idea for a video. Gosh, sometimes it takes me a while to warm up to a new scent profile, or sometimes it just takes that magical full-day wear in the right weather to really understand a fragrance. Off the top of my head, fragrances that started as ??? but moved to loves (and in some cases loves for life) include Houbligant Iris des Champs, NR Pure Musc, Gres Caboutine, & Amouage Opus I. I know there are more too! Sometimes the best fragrance relationships start with a curious intrigue and a slow burn.

Great topic! For me, I hated Mon Guerlain for quite some time until I tried the Intense.. and my husband loved it! Now I really appreciate the beauty in both, but I do prefer the Intense. Flowerbomb Nectar was another one I despised, have had the travel spray for many months and tried it again. To my surprise I like it better than the OG. Same with Idole Aura. I now love Armaf Club De Nuit Woman, but it took like six months for it to not smell so masculine to me. One more I honestly only tried because it was supposedly one of Princess Diana’s favorites; 24 Faubourg.. and I HATE vintage smelling perfumes. Well I happened to be wearing Libre Intense when I sampled it and it was absolutely beautiful together! It’s truly a spectacular combo ❤

Love, love, love Forte Bosca Vanilla. Tried the oil perfumery version and immediately bought a bottle of the real thing. Layers well with the oil perfumery version of Lira. Trying to refrain from buying a bottle of that as I will cry if it doesn’t last, which is what I’ve heard. Great video!

hey Chris. I very much enjoyed the theme of today's video. This has definitely happened to me too, more than once. Bo by Liis was one that with my initial sample I wasn't really into it at all. Recently however, I pulled it back out and gave it another try and now I want a full bottle. Same thing happened with Ambrosia Imperial. I bought a 5ml decant and was super excited to give it a go. The first 2-3 times i used it I wasn't wowed at all. It wasn't a hate or even a definite no, but, it wasn't something I would reach for. One day this summer I randomly decided to try it again and TADA the magic happened! Now i find it quite intoxicating. I don't have a bottle, but if I could get it on a good sale I would likely buy it. The other scent tat comes to mind is Cheeky Smile by Jusbox. This one blew me away at first and I was really wanting a full bottle but I only buy bottles when on sale or if at a great price via ebay etc(personal rule). So maybe 5-6 weeks goes by an one day I spray it on again and this time it felt odd and I didn't like it as much as I had initially. Now I still like it and if I was gifted a bottle I'd be happy, but I don't desire to purchase the full bottle anymore. Not sure why that happened, but it did. That's why 5ml decants or more than on 2ml samples is a good idea to really be sure the perfume is "for me".

Happy Sunday Chris! I decluttered several Middle Eastern fragrances in the past few months. Some were okay, some I detested. I waited for a full year, tested again, before I decided to declutter. I’m just not a fan of the Middle Eastern vibe. I had three Montale fragrances in which I detected a really strong synthetic note. I retested them when I was getting ready to list my other declutters for sale. To my great surprise, that note had completely disappeared! I love them! I won’t be buying any more though. I don’t want to have to wait a year to wear any purchase! No thanks. I hope you’re having a lovely weekend!💛💛💛

Yes Leah I’m the same way. The vast majority of ME scents just don’t work for me either. That’s why I just have for the most part stopped buying them with rare exception. I know exactly the synthetic note you are talking about in Montale . I didn’t realize it faded. Good to know!!

I’m not a fan of heavy, rose forward scents. When I first tried Pink Me Up it had more rose than I anticipated. I thought it would be more fruity smelling. But after giving it a few wears, I really love it now. I find it so feminine, fun and flirty. I had a sample of Delina La Rosee and didn’t like it. I finally gave it to a friend. She sprayed it and I caught a whiff in the air and said oh wow, that smells so good! She offered to give it back to me but I told her to keep it. So now I will be ordering a decant to give it another try. 😄

Well, Olimpea Legend (now it is discontinued, and I love it), Guidance, I was so confused when I sprayed it ( 1, 2, 3, 4 times), and now it is a love for life. Although it is worth the price, I will wait for it to go down. Guidance will be a staple in my collection; I have a 10ml decant. BR540, I can tolerate the DNA on others now. I even ventured to try Trajan when you featured it; it was a bold move, and I couldn't reasonably handle it, but you and I both made my brother super happy⠀🤣). Looking gorgeous, as usual!

Blanche Bete was like this for me. I bought a sample, tried it on paper, got a ton of tuberose, and I thought “not for me.” Then I forgot I had the sample until a few months later and finally tried it on my skin in the winter. I liked it but didn’t love it. Then in every “summer coconut” video, people mentioned her, so I broke my sample out again. Needless to say, my full bottle showed up this week💕 it definitely smells different in each season, and I love how it smells in the heat!

I love Bosca Vanilla Forte!! I can totally see how others would so strongly dislike it though. I sampled it while on vacation in Orlando a few weeks ago and fell hard for it. I am having a hard time with all Gritti fragrances. They almost all smell like gasoline to me. 😅 I’m hoping I’m going to have a magical nose change to them someday soon because looking at all of the notes for most of their fragrances, I should love them!

I made the mistake of decluttering Ajayeb early and regretting it. I have a decent of Mango Kiss that I’ve been nursing 🧡 Bianco latte when I first got it. I thought it was just OK but now it’s one of my favorites especially for laying with coconuts or making creamy fruit fruity. Dolce Melodia is very new to my collection and a love at first sniff it’s creamy citrus with something else too not sure what but love it lasts. Love Chantilly too another love at first sniff I agree very good for the office.

Most sandalwoods smell like pickles to me, but one time, on a day that I had a gone to an artisans market and had smelled perfumes, bath bombs, candles all day, I tried again Santal suprême (monde gourmand) and jungle santal (finery) and finally didn’t smell the pickle note! It just smelled refreshing, woody, beautiful! The next day the pickle impression came back :(

I still can’t get on with Ajayeb Dubai, and I got it right before its real popularity. I wonder if I’m not spraying it enough. It reminds me of Amethyst in that it smells completely different than what people are describing. I’ve heard it described as sweet and heavy on the mango. I get no sweetness and really hardly any mango. Your description of when you first got it is actually a very good match for what I still have. It gives me hope that maybe mine will improve in time. Honestly, I bought it for the bottle but also had high hopes for the fragrance based on the notes.

Hi Chris...really enjoyed, , great video, great topic. I am almost 2 years into my fragrance journey and absolutely loving it. Well the fragrance I have grown to love....is Ani from Nishane. About a year and a 1/2 ago, a friend who is many years into his fragrance journey gave me a generous decant. My reaction was ....what is all the hype about?? Earlier in May, while organizing my perfumes...I came across the decant. OMG...I absolutely loved it.🥰Waited for a sale and bought it from Jomashop. I am wearing it today- we have unusually cool weather here in Dallas...so I pulled it out. I am in love...and in the process I discovered my new favorite note is ginger. A fun topic might be doing the reverse...what fragrances did you love in the beginning of your fragrance journey (or even before you started your fragrance journey) that you dislike now and probably decluttered...I can think of a few. LOL. 😂

I too, had a heart change for DiorRiviera. I absolutely love it now. I took it with me to Japan and now I have those memories connected to that Fragrance. My most memorable heart change was for gentle fluidity gold. I bought it at Neiman's in the fall of 2022 and returned it. I really wanted the new 724 by MFK at that time. I just could not get my head wrapped around what gentle fluidity was doing. Then about six months later, I fell in love with it. Now I have the 200 mL bottle and the 100 mL and I think that it's a masterpiece.

Oh my gosh that is a turnaround!!! The 200 ml and 100 ml? Wow! I just finally purchased the 200 ml once my daughter also finally fell in love. It took me a while to take the plunge but I’m so glad I did. My entire family loves it. Even picky Pat and my son who never comments on my scent. ❤️

Another great 👍🏽 video Chris. I had 4 full bottles (ajayeb, Chantilly, pink me up, bosca vanilla). Now i only have Chantilly and pink me up, returned the other 2. Also had a sample of dolce melodia, but wasn't eager to get a full bottle. Going to put pink me up on my tray this month to see if i really love it. ❤❤❤

Yes, this has happened to me a number of times😩😩. I bought Ajayeb Dubai Potrait in May, it was my SOTD and paired with Mango body butter from The Body Shop🥭🥭. Mine would be Guidance, Sintra, Angel Nova, all turned into full bottles😍😍. Samples are Sunshine Woman, Specttacolore, Bora Bora and these are currently on my wishlist😍😍. Stay gorgeous🥰🥰

Happy Sunday! I like this video not everything is a love at first sniff. Some fragrances I refuse to give up on ot kick myself because I gave up too fast. Soon as I give it away and get that last whiff 😮 I want it back 😅 Then I learned to layer too. Ajayeb I gave up on because of the oud in it. It's so cheap I may try again.

I love Bosca Vanilla so much. It's not too salty/ seaweed on me. It may be my favorite from this summer. I haven't had a learned-to-love in a long time. What I have discovered is that I just don't like that many hyped and popular fragrances. Sometimes I'll get one and try it many times but still don't get what the majority of people get.

Currently I am testing Sarah Bakers Peache’s revenge for a third time. I hated it the first two times and this third time I liked it a lot. So much so that I put a larger size decant on my wish list for summer 2025, still not full bottle but will see if I get there. I loved dioriviera and vanilla forte at first sniff. thank you for this great video.

Yes I had the same experience with Scherzo. But I just didn’t like it at all and sold it quickly. I tried it a few times and …no. Can’t. That Oud was overpowering and all I could smell.

Love this topic. I unfortunately dont love many things on first sniff or even second sniff. This is why I depend on you all in the fragrance community to tell me what is good so I try it that 3rd and 4th time. I am not sure what is wrong with me. Bianco Latte, Nota sugar to name a couple. I prefer gioiosa also and also Milk's note but it took other people raving about Bianco Latte to get me to appreciate it. Nota sugar I love!! I am still on the fence on Dolce Melodia, Nothing wrong with it but it didnt tug at my heartstrings yet. I still have more in my decant from scent split so there is still time. I think sometimes, it just takes time to "understand" certain fragrances. That's why I'm letting the Kate Spade Sparkle marinate until next spring. So many love it and I just can't yet. Maybe I never will, but I'll give it some time. Now, I'm looking forward to trying my fragrances from last fall/winter to see if they've deepened up, if I still like them or like them better than I did back then.
