LEARN ELECTRICS

Күн бұрын

This LearnElectrics video was originally intended to be just one short video about all the protective devices together, but I soon realised that there is so much information to get over, that one video on its own just isn’t enough.
Especially if you are new to the trade or, on an apprentice scheme, you need to go through these devices in a way that improves your understanding and skills. Expect to be asked questions and demonstrate your understanding in assessments and exams.
So, this will be part one of a short series and we will start with fuses and work our way through the different protective devices over the next few weeks.
Some frequent comments have included things like …
What is a fuse, what does it do?
What types of fuses are there and are they interchangeable?
And just what is the point of a fuse?
To view all of our videos type in LearnElectrics all one word into the KZbin search bar.
This is video No.176 on our KZbin channel where we have videos on a wide range of electrical topics.

Great explanation of PD either side of fault/load and one of the first I’ve seen discussing de-energised electricity !!

It's how I visualize electricity. There are so many explanations about what electric flow is and isn't but I stick to energised and de-energised. Thanks for watching. Dave.

Another great video and it is important to know what type and size of fuse that is used. As electrics seem to be going more into electronics fuses are very commonly found. As a maintenance electrician in a industrial plant I had fuses from .100 ma to 600 amp for lower voltages ( 5 volts to 600 volts) and 1 amp to 100 amp high voltage (14,400 to 24,000 volts) fuses as well. Thanks for the video.

Thanks for the info Lyle. Yes, we had dozens of fuses like you. I started to add up the value of the stock on the shelves once. I gave up, the money value started to frighten me. Thanks for watching. Dave.

excellent explanation and this is the first time someone has referred to electricity as either energised or de energised. IS de energised electricity still got a voltage though to push it back to the transformer and become energised.
@learnelectrics4402

I look at it as flow of electrons. think of a central heating system. Hot, energised, water flows into the radiator. It loses the energy as heat into the rad and then the same cooler water flows back to the boiler to be re-heated, re-energised. The potential difference or voltage on the line is pushing the electrons around the circuit. Hope this helps but the real truth is that nobody really knows how electricity works. Some say it is electrons, some say it is waves, there are lots of theories. Dave.

Hello thanks alot for your informative videos. I have really learnt alot from you. There is a video you talked about shared neutral. My question is in most homes here in kenya you find that all neutral are from consumer unit neutral bar. Can we categorise neutral bar in consumer unit as part of shared neutral if not why. Kenya electricity we use 240V single phase and 415V three phase just like UK. 5hz frequency

Anthony, if the neutrals for each circuit go back to the neutral bar individually, that is good. A shared neutral is when two different circuits use the same neutral conductor to go back to the neutral bar. The video you want is ...
