I'm currently just getting into the UPS industry after 5 years of being a grounds worker. needless to say after such a long time not having to do any serious critical thinking in my last job it has been quite the ride trying to learn even the basics of electricity. I was told I will be doing my 18th edition next year and am currently watching your videos to help men get an idea of what the exam will be like and can I just say you do a fantastic job at helping someone like me who has ADHD start to understand what it is I need to know. I can't believe stuff like this is free!! I just want to say thank you for doing what you do!

Thanks for the great comments, appreciated. If you search for Amendment 2 on the LearnElectrics channel you will get all the 18th edition videos that go with the brown book, the one you will take your exam against, including lots of questions and answers for you to have a go at. Lots more to come on this, when I get my voice back. Watching the blue book videos is still good, lots of help on how to search the book. Example Amendment 2 video below. Good luck, its a great trade, and the roof is usually on when you are working! kzbin.info/www/bejne/a3vLoIiNp62csNk

Great Video as always and learning a great deal, only thing on this video, is where to actually find the volt drop and maximum length formulas in the regs, anyone with any pointers much appreciated. 👍
@learnelectrics4402 Жыл бұрын
The formula is not shown in the regs. It is talked about over several paragraphs, but nothing like a formula is shown.

06:18, I am wondering where is the actual formula in the Wiring regulation book. Can you help me?
@learnelectrics44023 жыл бұрын
It isn't. That's why I tell you what it is. It is in the on-site guide, look in the index for voltage drop calculation. And yes, you will get questions on it in the 18th Exam. Thanks for asking, thanks for watching. Dave.

Once again, great channel, can you do a detailed three phase calc? I.e. voltage drop when there are different run and grouping methods, so 100m underground, then 100m on tray, with differing grouping? Do you have to account for these or typically use the worst case scenario?
@learnelectrics44023 жыл бұрын
We will do Ed. But generally you calculate and size the cable for the worst case scenario. If a new length is added and the cable conditions have changed then resize cable/re-fuse etc. Which is what we do in distribution boards. Thanks for asking.

Which regs state these formulas? i have them in my notes but I have been told you cant have anything written in your notes, so now i have to stick it note these pages for the exam.
@learnelectrics4402 Жыл бұрын
The actual formula is NOT in the brown Regs book that you can take into the exam. It is explained on page 429 and the rest is up to memory. Do lots of example calculations. If you go to LearenElectrics.com and put Amendment 2 into the search bar you will get 18th Edition Questions and help for the latest exam. Good luck, Dave.

Hi How can I find the length of a roll of cable that’s has been used if I only have my meter to measure resistance R1+R2 & don’t have any other formulas to hand? Regards mg.
@learnelectrics44023 жыл бұрын
Malachy, have a look at this video and use the table in the video to help. Just treat the roll of cable as being r1 and r2. Connect the Line and Earth where they come through the reel and measure at the other end. Dave. kzbin.info/www/bejne/b3WvmIBurLJortE

What about Voltage drop if you have multiple Consumer units and the one feed the other until the final circuit??
@learnelectrics44023 жыл бұрын
The furthest point of use should not have more than the permitted volts drop. You may have to increase cable sizes that feed the daisy chained consumer units to achieve this. Or, good practice, consider feeding each CU independently. Hope this helps. Dave.
