I think the off arm down was used to train a proper/better unit turn. If the off arm stays high there is risk of too much arming of the ball. Its is a less fluid this way but further everything is very clean and powerful

Definitely possible. His forehand "off arm" morphed at some point because it was very traditional in 2022. I would love to hear what prompted the change. -Jason Frausto

The Tower of Tandil used to do a pretty move with his off hand

While trying this motion, it feels as though the non hitting arm is not expending much energy at all. It falls under gravity, and when the body rotates, this does something to bring it back up and around (in a natural way). Or am I mistaken...
@TennisUnleashed12 күн бұрын
I appreciate you trying it and getting a "feel" for it. In all my years doing this I've never seen an off arm make this move on a high level player. I don't think you're wrong at all in how you described it via gravity. Part of me wonders if he's doing it to generate racket head speed? If you look at footage of him from 2021/4 years ago it seems to be absent from his forehand kzbin.info/www/bejne/p4evqaeVaqp3idUsi=E0TUxxPTADrVdKja&t=10 In 2022 also absent from his forehand kzbin.info/www/bejne/gYjdoXmQibumodEsi=02wDRdL7A7WA49WD&t=25 It starts to appear in 2023 here about half the time he hits a forehand kzbin.info/www/bejne/aJKsk3eVoM-CiNUsi=eo_uEx1Z6s61gnS5&t=276 -Jason Frausto

I don't think Tien's left arm's early drop will affect his forehand. He's been hitting it that way in the Challengers matches and now slam matches and it is a rock-solid forehand. I am wondering though about a point you made about rotating the upper body so your back is facing the fence by end of the finish. I think Mourataglou or another KZbin coach said to rotate it in the direction you want to send the ball and also that over-rotating will send too much sideways force rather than that force into the ball. What do you think about this, Professor Frausto?
@TennisUnleashed11 күн бұрын
If you're gonna call me Professor, that means I have to go back to school to obtain my doctorate ;) In all seriousness though, you're asking a good question. I think we have to remember that forehands in tennis are very much about "rotational force", now more than ever. There are many reasons why forehands have become about rotational force, I'll have to make a video on why that's dominant versus linear force (stepping in). We're asking players to hit harder than ever before while moving faster than ever before. That's why we're seeing guys like Fonseca rotate on his forehand as much as he does, and that's also why we're seeing the same thing with Tien. Can rotation direction affect shot direction? I don't personally teach it that way, I teach that contact point and what part of the ball you hit will affect the direction when I'm working with players on court. Different strokes for different folks ;) I hope this answers your question. -Jason Frausto

Strokes are all about rhythm and timing, so as long as he’s making good contact, don’t mind the extra move with the off arm.

Hi, what does it mean when a commentator says one players forehand is more laid off than another player?

He is a leftie with reliable strokes, good height & speed. The rotation on the forehand contradicts the instruction given when hitting a one-hand backhand. Odd! Btw, let's remember that these players have perfect courts, balls, rackets,... Recreational players have sh*tty & noisy courts too.
