In learning another language, most teachers talk about grammar in our native language in a way that takes it for granted (because we do so all the time). Thank you for taking the time to go over the connection across the languages through the opening grammar lesson. It's super helpful.

Currently trying to learn French due to me needing 1 language credit for college and my WORD- this single video is so much more helpful than *ANYTHING* I've been taught in my college class! I really like that you're introducing the concept with english, THEN moving into French. It makes it SOOOO much easier to follow. I know this video is like, several years old or what-not and this likely won't be seen, but I have to give thanks where it is due.

That's interesting, when I learnt French I was taught of the three groups as ER, RE and IR, and irregulars were some sort of fourth group though not defined as such, they were just there. I always regarded IR as the third group because of this until recently when I began to agree that IR should be the second, though I would still class regular RE verbs as a third by themselves, and simply accept that you find irregulars in all three.

There are patterns with irregular verbs though. For example, 'rire', 'lire' and 'dire' all have the same conjugation pattern. The 'prendre' 'apprendre', 'surprendre'verbs do as well. 'Vouloir' and 'pouvoir' follow the same type of pattern. I tried to link and teach those together when I taught high school french to make them easier to remember when conjugating

1. Regular verbs (-er) & (-ir) *(-ir) have (-issant) suffix in present participle form 2. Irregular verbs (-re), (oir), & some (-er) + (-ir) like aller, dormir and venir *stem of irregular verbs will change drastically when conjugating even though suffixes for imparfait/futur/conditionnel stay the same

Monique Renee Fuselier is my French name. It is my given name, as my father was French! I took French in High School, didn’t learn a thing. We all took a French name from our books and that was our name during class, Monique was in my textbook, my name remained the same. Before he died I asked what did they call their grandmother in French? If I knew how to spell it , much less say it I wouldn’t be here now ! My dad was from south Louisiana, ( the Fuselier’s originated in Lyons,France. ) so his word was probably slang. Anyway thank you I will try to learn my French now that I found you!
