I deeply appreciate the camera allowing us to thoughtfully peruse the work without trying to make the camkeraman's work seem "artistic. Its about degas and how we iexamine his art which are the reasons for this excellent film. The commentary was thoughtful and enlightening. Degas remains a hero of mine as an artist, but he leaves me wondering why we Jews are so often the focus of anger and hatred. I appreciate the narrator's frank description of this unfortunate and misinformed aspect of Degas character. This film uses time very well. Good job!

A highly unusual documentary for its silent pauses and absence of music. This was quiet approach permits contemplation and is fitting for Degas’s apparent personality.

An impeccable portrait of my favorite painter along with Picasso. Don't laugh Pablo admired him read Picasso looks at Degas. Along with the mentioned (Sebastion) Smee who compares him with Manet along with Bacon/Freud; Picasso/Matisse and de Kooning/Pollack in his fascinating The Art of Rivalry.

This narrators continued negative family dynamic interpretation is ridiculous. The painter spent a lot of time with his family and did numerous family portraits. If his home life was trash he would have left his family at 18

But genuine artists with the gift are often disturbed flawed characters. They use art to process their fears and disturbances and are often solitary figures. Today every man and his dog become artists and their main aim is to make big money. This is why we are getting a lot of empty art today. We care about the art of Degas

Just finished watching. This is added to my previous comment: Degas’s antisemitism casts a pall. It is disheartening when we learn that a person whose work we have admired turns out to have a deeply flawed character.
