It’s so kind of you to let the students handle the lambing under your guidance! It’s one of those things you can only learn by doing. Good job everyone!

When I have a lame sheep the first thing is trimm the hoof and look for a problem. Often there is a hole in the hoofwall where dirt comes in. Then I spray the hoof or I put it in a footbath. Sometimes the sheep have an absess in the hoof. Last year I had a lame sheep and I couldn´t fix her. I had 3 vets checking her, and every vet said I should sell her. But I didn´t gave up. I put bandages around her hoof and put the hoof in a footbath every day for 4 month. Today she is not lame and happy in the field. But I have only 27 sheep and they are my pets.

Sheep lambing is so unpredictable but you have a great awareness of sheep problems with out lambing in the shed your spot on with their problems. Wonderful to see up coming vet students learning from your farm on birthing lambs. God bless.

Great video David. How much Alamycin do you give for the lame sheep? And is it just a one day course or do you repeat it so many days later? Do you find it works well? I had a few feet problems in the shed this year but I’m convinced they were a bit worse because eating silage instead of dry haylage and the wet silage around the ring feeder was making them worse. Would you agree? I was bedding them well but doesn’t take long for silage to make a bed around the feeder!

Do all ear tags have chips in them for the tag reader. Or do you order them specifically for that tag reader? If I got a scanner would it pick up all my sheep or would have to re tag them?
@naturallyblonderockingred8 ай бұрын
Depends if theyre RFID tags or plain ones. Most i believe nowadays are RFID but there are some that arent. If theyre RFID a scanner would read them 😊
@sheepschool3658 ай бұрын
Not sure where you are in the world but compulsory for all sheep to be tagged with an eid tag here. Possibly compulsory in UK now also but not sure on that.?
