@@nana_7290 thank you so much, keep learning !!!! This is the hardest, when you lose your motivation, but this is the moment when you need to show your discipline. Well… at least that is what I am saying to myself. Chinese language is amazing, and it must to be learned!!!

Congrats on learning Chinese! It's a long (and often painful) journey but so rewarding, especially when you can start reading the first 500 hanzi. I started learning in December 2023. My motivation fluctuates like crazy - sometimes I'd study 4 hours a day for 2 weeks, then life gets in the way with exams, or I "cheat" on Mandarin with French or Latin, or just get frustrated and drop it for weeks. Props to you for sticking with it, but don’t forget to take breaks to avoid burnout, bc trust me, been there, done that lol. Despite the ups and downs, I think I’ve made solid progress in about a year (with lots of gaps). I'd say I’m low HSK 4-ish. I can recognise (but definitely not handwrite) around 700 words and kind of speak clumsily, but hey, progress is progress! Some tips for starting out: 1. Master the fundamentals first! Everyone says, "Just immerse yourself!" and that’s great, but I think Chinese is so different that skipping the basics can lead to some painful mistakes later on. To quote Nietzsche: “He who would learn to fly one day must first learn to walk and run and climb and dance; one cannot fly into flying.” For Chinese, walking = nailing pinyin and tones before running into full immersion. 2. Pinyin chart is your best friend: Mimic all the sounds and tones until you get it exactly right. Record yourself, mimic native speakers, and don’t be afraid to ask for feedback. This one is amazing: yoyochinese.com/chinese-learning-tools/Mandarin-Chinese-pronunciation-lesson/pinyin-chart-table 3. Learn tone pairs: Tones are tricky enough, but pairing them in two-morpheme words can trip you up. Practice recognising and reproducing tone pairs. This site is brilliant: resources.allsetlearning.com/chinese/pronunciation/Tone_pairs 4. For vocab, use Anki: Concrete nouns are great for beginners because you can visualise them instantly. For example, I set up Anki cards like this: Front: Picture of a lemon with no other text. Back: The hanzi, pinyin, and audio (I use AwesomeTTS with Microsoft Azure for native-sounding voices). With this method, I could point at loads of things in Chinese without buffering, so Anki really sped up my progress. 5. Little Fox Chinese is great for simple comprehensible input: They have amazing beginner-friendly videos that make understanding fun and easy. Definitely recommend it for starting out. 6. Use Language Reactor for immersion: I started watching Chinese dramas with Language Reactor, a Chrome extension that adds dual subtitles and lets you hover over words for their meaning. Anytime I saw useful vocab, I’d throw it into my Anki deck for review later. It made learning with shows way more productive and I was still having fun! Anyway, just keep going and don’t stress about being perfect. Mandarin’s a marathon, not a sprint. Break it into manageable pieces. 加油!

I used to have anki pro for learning english ( still using it for english). Will do with chinese too!!! So far i stick to comprehenseble input approach, i find it quite usefull, i let my brain to get used to chinese phonetic first, maybe for the first couple of month....
