I can't tell you how welcome this is as LUTs really only work for a camera in a lighting condition in a program whereas colour management is the much, much root of it.

Very very interesting. Some of this vocabulary and settings has changed in v18.0. Also there is the glaring complication of Apple displays and export to KZbin, which is probably the #1 use case for Davinci Resolve, at least in terms of number of users. So how to align these settings with the Rec.709-A or Gamma 2.2 workarounds etc would really be a fantastic follow-up to this video!

Thanks so much for this video, Daria and Casey! I've been watching a brazzillion KZbin tutes on this stuff, and everyone it seems has a different take. I'm a beginner with only the freebie version of Resolve, so I can't use 10-bit and I'm stuck with 8-bit V-log out of my S1 for now. Even so, when I selected the Davinci Wide Gamut intermediate in the project manager settings, then changed input gamut to V-log- BAM! 80-90% job done- freaking awesome. Thanks a million, guys!

Casey, nice work. You are brilliant and having Daria explain the basics provides a whole new level of understanding. Im a novice but at least Im seeng the benefits. Should mention the Project settings Monitor LUT. It threw me out colour wise (contrasty) as I imported old projects from adobe and davinci into a new timeline. Couldnt figure what I was doing wrong. That and the misunderstanding of auto, video and full in the render settings. Well done

Hey Casey, if you're looking for a tutorial topic: You know when you watch sports and they pause the action, and then draw circles around the players and arrows and stuff where they'll go in the upcoming moments? That'd be kind of cool I think. p.s. love the channel.

Fantastic and refreshing! A long, long over due video! There are a million videos on KZbin about Grading/Colour Correcting but NOT ENOUGH videos about the colour management 'workflow.' In fact it is crazy how few videos there are on this VERY IMPORTANT part of the day to day video editing workflow. It would be great to see Daria do a professional video explaining a standard, usable workflow for Davinci Resolve (all versions, not just DR17) addressing the best workflow from START (importing shot media) to FINISH (delivering for Cinema or WEB) all in one video! That currently doe snot exist on KZbin and I'd love to see it! Such an important video workflow film does not seem to exist on KZbin for some insane reason?!? Is it because Colour Management is such a dark, complex art? As I said there are millions of videos about colour correcting and grading footage but NOT ENOUGH COLOR MANAGEMENT WORKFLOW videos. Hopefully we will see more.

congrats! this is the only video on this subject i found which is actually 'accurate' or at least going into fine detail enough to highlight both, the potential applications and issues with it. most still do not understand why there are shifts in color/gamma after export on different devices...most do not understand metadata. this is the video i always recommend to watch...and then read her book :D
