It makes absolutely no fucking sense for Esau to die to enemy projectiles or floor hazards You should be the only one able to kill him, that way you feel punished with the Lost form, because the point of the character is that you're not supposed to kill him. "Haha I guess the enemy brimstone laser killed him, you're now one hit away from death haha" is straight up unfair and it makes me feel they clearly didnt test this character at all. And don't even get me started on the save&quit glitch, or the unimplemented birthright

@@noatiendoboludos I think the truth just is, with how big Repentance is, the new content is gonna be really buggy in ways like this. It definitely feels like a lot of the newer content is super rushed. There's no way that a dev team that took their time leaves in items that straight up don't work with some characters, and an entire character with mechanics that don't hold up under normal play.

@@yunglink992 I think a lot of it is completely intentional. The stuff that's not intentional is something like a room with a charging spike block, carrying across the entire room a bloat spewing brimstone uncontrollably, making for a literally impossible to avoid attack. Even then, when you introduce an enemy like that enemy spike block with the red eye, that is just poor play testing, or a very poor judgment call that ignored the potential problems that red eyed spike block can present when it can carry enemies in its charging path from one side of the screen to the other, because that is effectively making it possible for them and other Mausoleum enemies to synergize attacks and do it in a Monumentally bullshit way too.

@@cheekybananaboy3361 That's nothing new either. He has had several breaks from Isaac. Which normally amounts to a reduction in episode quantity. Regardless, if you've been into a game for a decade, you don't just stop playing it completely.

Imo I think tinted Esau's health should be changed to increase a bit with every floor. At some point in the run you basically just start playing as the Lost. Especially with things like flies from Guppy constantly attacking him.

Or change how his death mechanic works. Have him slow or blind you instead upon death, and then let him respawn after some time.

@@cheekybananaboy3361 Blue flies do not target Esau. Just like homing doesn't curve to hit him. But the flies still deal damage to Esau when you're moving around, so I'll assume that's what you meant. They need to get rid of that, yeah. You're right about 7 Seals.

I mean tbf just dont pick up guppy with that character. In the same way, you wouldn't take like blood bag as the lost. There ARE certain items that gimp certain characters. Its bound to happen when your roguelike has characters with unique mechanics (see risk of rain 2 rex, who can ruin his entire healing gimmick) That being said you often get flies and spiders from other sources, and i agree that should probably change

I think it's because of the Jacob and Esau story in the book of Genesis. The whole story is related to birthright and one not getting it or something along those lines.

Seems pretty impossible to not be the lost versus the three phase boss, feel like that should be changed AT LEAST so Esau doesn't get sucked into the middle.

Yeah, the downside with a lot of the cool new content ideas is that they obviously didn't have the time to test them, and now there's a lot of things that are just kinda broken. Like tinted Esau being killed by things entirely outside of your control, or being literally unavoidable in that boss. Obviously those aren't features, those are results of a severe lack of play testing. I wish they'd taken a month to actually do it right but oh well.

Agreed. I can't imagine trying to beat the game while simultaneously playing keep-away with an instant-death machine that constantly hunts you and can also easily be your primary source of damage.

@@cppilgram Real difficult especially on Mega Satan because for some reason, Mega Satan refuses to fight until you kill Esau. I got there and it happened. From the lack of people talking about it, I imagine not many bothered to fight Mega Satan without using bugs to get rid of Esau.

@@TaggedInBlue Apparently, it's a bug so maybe you have to go into the Mega Satan door quickly right as you reach the floor? I beat Lamb with Esau around and then entered the Mega Satan door. I don't know if having Esau join the Mega Satan fight afterwards causes the same bug or not. You might be better off testing it out in console commands or waiting for them to fix the bug.

Anyone else know about the actual lore on Jacob and Esau to find out Esau hates Jacob for stealing his blessing from Issac and now is a lost soul burning in hell. The man is just raging trying to get back at Jacob for wronging him, but is outsmarted because Esau was the hunter is helping his brother the gatherer win. THAT'S FUCKED UP.

It's so weird. Like in a game as well polished as Isaac, it seems like a weirdly rookie mistake to just straight up have an incomplete item in the game. Like they couldn't have at the very absolute least, just copied the coding from the quarter, changed it from 25 to 15, and then have that as a placeholder for the characters they were too lazy to make an actual item for? Even with my limited knowledge of coding, I know that something like that couldn't possibly take more than an hour with someone who knows what they're doing.

when you play as The Lost you're already committed that its what's gonna happen so you don't sweat it, it's a inevitable part of the deal, but if you're being turned into The Lost in another run and its not in your plans of course you're gonna panic

@@imptwins Really depends on your run I'd say, if you got a spammy run like with conjoined or other things that spread tears and AOE damage all over the screen then I guess its inevitable, but if you got something more basic with just straight up tears coming out of your face in 1 direction I think its not, you do have a point, however for a while, most people will work with trying to avoid Dark Esau before they start to catch on at which points it is inevitable or not, its tricky for sure.

Someone said it took them 8 hours to beat Greedier as tainted lost in your previous video. It took me I would guess upward of 16 hours to beat Greedier as tainted jacob, that character is so difficult. You're either too strong by the Greed fight that you kill your ghost brother and then have to beat it as the lost, or you're too weak and he'll have killed you by floor 2.

I thought Tainted Jacob might be a cool idea but in practice he's literally just The Lost again. One Lost was enough, did we really need two more? Like, you're either too weak to kill much, or you're probably too strong to avoid killing Esau.

i hate this character so much. imo theyre the hardest character, and the worst in the game its way too punishing for a reward that is only good in the early game. if you get a run that is good enough to beat stuff like hush, but youre forced to play the lost because a couple stray shots and esau will die, since their health is so low. piercing shots are extremely useful as every character, except this guy, because it increases your chances of killing esau, which makes tech x, brimstone, moms knife, sagittarius, cupids arrow, trisagion and many more things just straight up detrimental. the only way ive managed to get all but 3 completion marks as this character have been by getting runs which survive as the lost, but at that point, youre just the baleful with mostly worse items, no holy card and no damage multiplier. i know one of the runs i had to rely on magic mushroom and void so i could just walk into every enemy to kill them. my greedier mode win, i had a glitch item (like from the t melt challenge) which was an infinite use butter bean, nail and sigil of baphomet, so i could just get super high damage every room and kill enemies and bosses in single shots. the infinite black hearts from the nail didnt matter because id just become the lost half the time anyway. i enjoy the baleful, despite being able to only get hit once. the better items help. this character is like, good on the first 2 floors and then not good after that, and then when you get to the "final bosses' and the late game its almost impossible. theyre one of the only 2 characters i havent 100%ed yet, and im pretty sure the other one, the enigma is supposed to be getting a buff, and even without that, i find them kinda fun in a way. every other challenge character in isaac other than this guy ive found fun. the lost, the baleful, the keeper, the fettered. even the old keeper. maybe not the old lost, but id honestly rather play the old lost than this guy, cause at least they could take all devil deals for free, and you didnt have to do things like delirium.
