My name is Lucy, I'm a Dutchwoman here to offer an alternative approach to beauty.
On this channel I do mostly hair tutorials where I show you how to braid, pin and style your own hair. I recreate hairstyles from movies, tv shows or history and I regularly come up with my own, which I love to share with you!
I really enjoy diving into history to find out how women went about their beauty and dressing rituals in days past. Vintage and history-themed videos are my little passion project.
You'll find a bit of lifestyle content here as well, ranging from cozy chats over a cup of tea (my beloved Tea Time videos) to personal vlogs and home & interior videos.
Enjoy browsing!

Same with my grandmother and me. I would visit her for the summer and she would pin curl and french braid my hair. We'd watch dramatic movies and foreign news, she had sophisticated magazines and books and wall decorations from traveling and living all over the world. It was magical. I miss those days!❤❤

I pin-curled my hair for years, and through a lot of trial and error figured out a couple tricks to help the curls last longer (I too live in a place that's *very* humid). The first thing that would help your curls is using a larger kerchief when you are setting them. All of the curls should be tightly wrapped up close to the head. This not only helps them stay in place, but helps them set better using the heat of your head. If you have something long enough that can wrap around your head twice, thats best. The second thing that would help your curls set better is a different brush. Wire brushes like the one you used pull out the curl as you brush your hair. A bristle brush helps to separate out the curl without pulling them out as much (it also helps the curls to be less frizzy). I would also brush gently from the bottom of your hair towards the scalp - - I have no idea why brushing this way helps, but it does. I never noticed much if a difference between Bobby pins or alligator clips as long as the Bobby pins used didn't have a ridge (although for standing curls an alligator clip is about the only thing that worked). Bobby pins do keep the hair held better to the head although you have to be more diligent about not deforming the curl as you pin them; a curl that sets square will be square. As annoying as it may seem, sleeping in the pin curls helps tremendously. Not only are you helping them by keeping them warmer but also by applying pressure to them for an extended amount of time. I would also say the longer you keep them setting the better. I always noticed a difference between blow drying them and then taking them out, letting them air dry for a couple hours and taking them out, and letting them set for 8+ hours (letting them set for 8+ hours and sleeping on them always gave the best result). The longer the curls were in my hair, the more defined they were and the longer they lasted. The last bit of advice I can give is to use small sections. Nothing bigger than an inch. It takes forever to curl and is really annoying to do (my fingers usually hurt by the end, but then again I have arthritis) but something about the smaller curls helps them last longer.

My hair length is about the same as yours. Doing pin curls with your my fingers has always been a bit of pain in the bum for me, as I find it difficult to keep the ends of my strands in the middle of my pin curl. If I can give you a tip (or a hack?), use a lipstick barrel to curl your hair around it! That way, you've got both your hands free to do the curling and the width of the curls are more uniform as well! It works wonders for me, makes the whole process quicker too! 😘 Lots of love Liz

Loepsie I used the Dyson air wrap for it because it wraps the hair automatically, and then the groove in the wand fits a bobby pin in it 😂 But I returned my airwrap because it wasn’t worth the money just to use it for pin curls when the rest of the features didn’t work for me

I do a wet set with my pin curls, and let it dry completely-- which takes a good 24 hours with my hair. The curls last me about a week, probably more if I didn't wash it. Try putting the hair up in a scarf at night to preserve curls and use a tiny bit of product at the ends to refresh it in the morning!

I wish someone like you would make a pincurling video so we could see from someone more contemporary than educational clips how it was done! It's kind of strange to me that no one who's done for decades seems to have made videos of it. Many people mention their moms' or grandmothers' pincurling, and I really wish they'd make a video of their doing it! One can hope. 🙂

In the 50's, my dear sweet mother used to pin curl my hair. I guess she got tired of it and made me start doing it in about the 7th or 8th grade. You should have seen me the next morning! I had to go to school looking like Little Orphan Annie! Plus, I had super fine, straight hair, so she and my aunt would get on either side of me and give me a perm! Pure torture! That is the worst thing they could have done to my type of hair, but they didn't know it back then. When they got through with me, my head looked like a brillo pad. Plus, I had buck teeth and wore glasses! I was a real beauty! Thank goodness for braces and losing the glasses at age 12! I'm actually quite lovely now! LOL. Oh, and my mother would put 'finger waves' in my grandmother's hair sometimes use those long silver clamps, but mostly waved the hair just using a setting lotion and her fingers.

Loved that u used a how to guide. Pin curls take a long time. The smaller the strand, the better. Of course this means more clips and more time. However if u can muster through, the curls do last a about 2 days in my experience. My hair is about your length. Try 2 clips in the curls that feel loose. The clips might hold better the next time, if you separate the hair into smaller strands. I hope this helps.

Question: I have really thin hair and for whatever reason my hair doesn't stay smooth in the back/ near the crown area of my head. It separates and looks all janky to the point where you can see my scalp most of the time. I try to comb it out but it always does this. I don't really know what to do. How can I make the back of my hair smooth and normal? If you or anyone else has any tricks I would greatly appreciate it. :)
@BestFriendInYourThread
@BestFriendInYourThread 4 жыл бұрын
You will need to put in the effort of styling your hair since you have a natural parting that is causing the separation. I would recommend starting with wet hair, apply a little mousse at the roots, work in the product at your scalp. Then do a proper blowout with a round brush ensuring you are working the hair in different directions but keeping the hair smooth. If you are unsure how to do a professional blowout at home, you may want to watch a couple videos on it as well. Finish with the cool setting to lock the style in place and set with finishing spray as needed. I too have a similar issue and I can control my hair with these steps but it does require effort. I hope this helps.
