Learning to call it quits

On this day the weather apps were conflicting with each other a bit and when I got out to the field I noticed that the winds were slow enough to fly without any major issues but when I started kiting I began noticing the gusts were lifting and then dropping the wing faster than I'm used to at this location. This got me a bit weary but since they weren't hard enough to make me feel unsafe, I decided to give it a go anyway. Once I got over the trees the wind blowing began pushing me right even though I was giving a lot of left brake. Decided to come back down and ended up spending the next hour clipping in and kiting after finally removing the trim mallions. I want to try them out next time I'm flying in calm conditions so I can begin learning when to use them. I made the right call coming down because shortly after I began kiting there were a couple times the gusts lifted me from my feet and that's when I finally decided to call it quits. Now I'll have to train myself to keep those trims at the right setting when taking off and landing! See you guys on the next flight.

Those clouds look bent gives you a picture of what the upper winds are doing.

I had to call it early today just trying to kite. Everything read that it should have been calm but ended up being sketchy, and I had to take a wrap on the D's to safely bag the wing up.

Yea reports were all lies past couple days! Says it's snowing here now but not even raining. Must be up higher and or closer to the sensors

Loved this video watching you kite. What was the reported speed. If you can tip your camera down about 2-3deg that would be great. Also so you know what the wind speed is in the area. Check mail box Friday

Winds on my apps looked fine for a normal day of flying for me (screenshots in beg of video) but the skies and winds I felt on the ground did not match what the app was showing me. I decided to stay grounded after that flight and glad I did because the winds picked up much more when I was clipped in kiting like I mentioned when we spoke. Still had fun though! disappointed I didnt get to fly longer but I'd rather fly next sunny day than to get hurt and wait months! esp w this good weather coming soon.
