Learning to code is EASY! But there are many who fail. How can these two both be true?
Well, I believe that learning to code is easy, and by learning to code I mean learning enough to start applying for jobs. If you can follow just three steps in learning to code, and adamantly avoid a few things that cause so many to fail, you will be in the clear.
I'll discuss what these are in this week's video:
1. Three simple steps anyone can take to learn to code and start applying for jobs
2. Three reasons people fail in the above steps. Don't make these mistakes and you'll succeed.
3. My #1 mindblowing, but simple, secret for learning to code
4. Two tools for growth while learning to code

You touch on this, but for me it's vital to invest in management of effort vs available mental capacity. Do harder stuff when awake and rested, have something less brainy but still productive to do when not at 100%.

Good points about why some people fail. I would point out that being a developer a person needs to have a passion for writing code, borderline obsessed with coding. No passion, go find some other profession. With coding a developer will encounter problems (ie bugs) that can take hours, weeks, or months to solve. A person who has a passion for coding will be relentless at solving the problems, while a person who lacks passion will give up very quickly. While in college I could easly identify the students that were going to make it, and those what would not. Those that were going to succeed love to write code, those that got bored or struggled understanding concepts, weren't going to make it.

totally agree with you in the fail reasons I was jumping from course to course in differnt languages and trying to find the easiest and fast way to learn and sometimes I got bored I was also folllowing proffissional developers on twitter some of them try to make you imagine the programming is the most difficult thing to learn and he is the most succissfull guy in the world which lead me to frustration at the end I quit learning programming but yours and some other videos gave me hope to learn again Thank you for encouraging content

Hi Travis, I have been wondering about this question since I have decided to take a path to coding. Ok, so I might have an idea, but in your own POV what do developers mean when they say “think logical when it comes to JS”?

There are honestly at least quite a few honest-no-bullshit KZbinrs out there and likewise also at least a few good HONEST videos, that don't just recommend you joning a hypetrain or "needing a mentor (oh by the way, why not me?!)" BUT, this video, by this channel that I just accidentally discovered yesterday, which's channel name is a Me2 referring to Traversy Media, IS DAMN WORTH GOLD! So, although not everything I wrote up to here was neccesarely "nice", This video is GOLD and Worth to watch, Travis hits the point perfectly and realizing it.. I have to plague myself guilty of being "that guy" who constantly starts over new with a different course or book or tutorial or video or... And, thinking about it... It is probably even less likely because "I think I don't like the way he/she teaches". It is, because its EASIER to do what you already did..

Is react native still best? What about flutter, which is quite good, Or Cordova, cordonia (one script for all devices)? Though, understand that basics for 6 months are really important.

I'm just trying to learn a couple programming languages because I have time, and I'm not sure if I'll ever get a job in development. However are there any languages you recommend learning that could be easy, and fun to make programs with, but could also translate into a job if I spark an interest?

Ruby? And learn Ruby on Rails
@peppigue
@peppigue 3 жыл бұрын
I'm just an aspiring developer myself, but here's my perspective: it's fairly easy to pick up the basics of languages once you get familiar with how programming works in general. Js is vital to web, but spend time with Lisp and you will at the same time get better at using python too. As an example. The important point for anyone in a hurry to get a career is getting good at some practical niche like a framework. Most modern programming is modular, putting stuff together from libraries. Pick one that has significant use and become good at it.

Do you recommend js for freelancing, or should freelancers focus on php and WordPress?
@TravisMedia
@TravisMedia 4 жыл бұрын
A base level of JavaScript is required all around (syntax, DOM manipulation). For freelancing, Wordpress and PHP are both good options and many of your clients will be using WordPress. However, with freelancing, often it’s more about solving the client’s problem in general which can come in many shapes and sizes so you could niche down to a language or type of framework and market specific case scenarios. But WP and PHP will open up a lot of possibilities for sure but again core JavaScript is needed all around.

What do you think of Python? But let me ask you, I'm an older guy, and I'm starting real late. According to one of your other video's that once you're over 50 or 55, the job prospects go down tremendously. But let me ask you if I learn HTML, CSS, Java Script and React, what about being a consultant? And can I add Python to the mix as well, or what?

I have a bachelor degree in computer science. If anyone comments about programming is not hard it makes me angry. And it's bluttent lie. Programming is hard and time consuming to learn. Most youtubers who talk's about programming and related stuffs are nothing but BS.Most of them have no professional experience.

Are you advocating sticking with bad teachers? Some teachers are just horrible, when you are experienced you dont really realise how some of them are horrible, but when you are new to a subject , a good teacher can really make a difference.
