In this video, I prepare to fly my Cessna 140 out of the farm by getting some tailwheel currency and instruction from a Flight Instructor named Ben who operates out of KXNX (Gallatin, TN). After flying with Ben, I highly recommend any pilots or people interesting in obtaining their pilot's license/tailwheel endorsement look into his operation at @flywithben.com where you can find an excellently maintained and run operation.

Special thanks to Ben Lehman for allowing me to film our flight and document the journey to flying my Cessna 140! I received no payment for making this video and recommendations are solely based on the interactions I had with Ben. Each person should research and determine for themselves who and where they should accomplish flight training.
Blue skies and tailwinds!

Had a 140 in the late 70s. Flew out of General Fox field Lancaster, California. Boy the heat and winds keep you on your toes. Year round winds and pretty strong crosswinds at Fox Field. Found out best way to land was wheel landings. That way I could dip the wing into the crosswind and keep it there while used the rudder to point the nose at the end of the runway . If I crabbed, I’d be blown off the runway when getting ready to land. No stall landing there most of the time. Actually most of the wheellandings were kinda like a carrier landing. Cram that yolk forward and keep it there with the wing into the crosswind and bang that left wheel onto the runway and hold it there. Other wheel drops to the runway then tail comes down.. fly it to tie down.

Thanks for the video…..Beautiful 140A! I’ve flown into KXNX several times in my ‘47 120. If you haven’t already….consider joining the Cessna 120/140 Association. Great resource. I’m one of the Mississippi State Reps, located @ H75. Blue Sky’s!

In 1958 my father was learning to fly, and bought a Cessna 140. Since he had begun taking lessons in an Aeronca Champ, not much extra training was needed. But when he bought a Cessna 172 a few years later, he had to go through some transition training to get comfortable in a tricycle-gear aircraft. How times have changed! I always loved the 140, it was the first plane I flew in with my Dad and we spent many happy hours together in it. Years later, I learned to fly in a Cessna 152, and eventually went through training to get my tail wheel endorsement in a Van’s RV-6.

My last instructor recommended I contact Ben about a tailwheel endorsement. Now I'm convinced he's the guy for me! Just trying to save up a little dough to pay for it...

Another 140 pilot! Love it! That 140A looks quite a bit nicer than ours though 😉

It’s a gorgeous one and really setup nice. Nice looking bird yourself! Like the two tone blue on it. I have the same fold out light on my 140 (mine is not and A model) that has a short in it currently… hopefully I can get it sorted over the winter break.

@@The_Flying_Mechanic Thanks! Good luck on your 140! They're a blast to fly when you can really stick the landing!

Congrats on a great video. I have a C-140A as well and it can be a challenge but is a great platform for what I call finishing how to fly. With full tanks its a pig with lipstick but with half tanks is a whole different airplane. Always have power when low and slow. I'm looking into the GoPro 360 deg camera as well.
