DUM! If U wanna' play hi, get a guitar. iPlay both =) & wen iDo guitar, iDuet 2et W/no highs @ all = bezt that way = mor crunchy =D U can blend them like sustain something 'supporting' the guitar & extend it, & sounds like part of the guitar but more massive. Meshuggah do that a lot. It's not really the 8 string guitar doing the lows. The guitar notes R short & the bass notes R long (generally speaking) & the guitar does just the 'stab' on top.

I play both guitar and bass. I would say its easier to fake it on guitar and harder to be really good at making your bass playing standalone. Dont limit your self to not playing with a pick. Some styles are played with a pick.

Fun fact: Tate Mcrae has no bass player. Playing bass is like playing lead. Obviously the biggest difference is fret spacing and string spacing. Learning finger techniques is also very different.

Picking up the bass ----> playing the most difficult song ever xD But I feel you , as a guitarist, when I picked the bass 2years ago, the first song I tried was Anesthesia ( pulling teeth), and the second was YYZ xD obviously it wasn't a success Also, could you do this kind of videos for when you're learning solos on guitar as well ? I found this video particularly interesting since I can see myself within it, seing the work behind all the videos where everything looks perfect is highly motivating, it makes the goals to feel more reachable.
