This video shows Cocopah students learning how to play the game. It is called peón in Spanish, and mičuuł in Cocopah. Teams of 4 players compete in male, female, and youth categories. The mičuuł/peón games are traditionally played at night around an open fire and have been known to continue past sunrise. Before the game starts, each player must go through a special ceremony.
Today, Peón tournaments are still played by many tribes throughout North America.
