Massive kudos to anyone willing to throw themselves out of a plane so please don't take this as a criticism. I'm just very surprised your instructors allowed you to progress onto dummy pulls, never mind freefall, when you were so de-arched on exit. You remained on heading on your static line jumps but have your head down and are de-arched. Don't get me wrong, I was the same for my first couple of jumps and I know how difficult it is but there was no way my instructors here in the UK would allow me to progress onto dummy pulls without being completely stable first. Like I said, pleeeaaase don't take this as a criticism! Anyone willing to do this deserves eternal respect!

+Put the lotion in the basket Yeah. I've done 9 dummy pulls now (usually doing really well 1 and 2 and then pressuring myself on 3 so failing because of destabilisation just the slightest amount) they would never have let this guy through.

It's a "RELAX" thing, during a very stressful moment. I too had to learn to relax, and become the wind, then it was easy and more funner.

Sounds like a Cessna 208. That sound of an open door on a turboprop just reminded me that one tandem jump was enough for me. Fun but terrifying.

The first few 5-15 jumps are the best - in terms of exitment. That student's first self-pull exit was fucking scary...

It took me 6 times on a static line, before a couple of drop and pop. Then a couple of drop and 10’s, and then free falling. I never got comfortable doing aerobatics, I did 25 jumps in one summer. That first jump though, the feeling, never can be duplicated.

Brings back memories ... I learned to jump at Maytown (Dave DeWolf put me out) in the early 1980's ... We had only 3 static lines, as I remember, and then were cleared for solo jumping, although perhaps memory fails me and there were more assisted jumps with dummy pulls before we were cleared to jump unassisted. Later I jumped at Woodbine, MD ... amassed 300 jumps, which is a pittance compared to most serious jumpers then and now.

Man I havent jumped in 2 years i have 5 jumps and i have only had 1 good arch any tips on the arch ?
@Moorbs
@Moorbs 8 жыл бұрын
+savagex466 number one tip - look up. Look up as much as you possibly can. Legs not too wide (also stops you arching as eaily). You can practice it at home standing or on the floor to build the muscle memory. Really focus on getting your pelvis in front of the rest of your body.
@Moorbs
@Moorbs 8 жыл бұрын
+Mark Moorby also, good position in the plane and a strong kick off with your right leg are important. Try and get your legs in the right position before you leave the plane and sit as close to the edge as you can, facing as forwards as you can.

head and arms are easy to stay aware of. legs will mess you up because you can't see them. feet shoulder width apart. if you're straining to spread your legs, you'll start bending at the hips, which is the biggest problem. it'll throw you on your back.

It concerns me that no-one is with you on your 1st solo freefall. There's the video of the guy on an AFF course, who has a seizure and is rescued by his instructors. Hopefully on SL method, his AAD, will have saved him.
@richardwalsh5882
@richardwalsh5882 5 жыл бұрын
It wouldn't be a solo freefall if an instructor was with you. Here your 1st freefall is a 3 second delay for RAPS. (Well technically it can be between 3 and 5 seconds, but most places seem to do 3 for the first freefall.)
@MitchellNelson123

I was going to be getting my A license through this method. I was told it is an older way, and possibly a little less safe than an AFF course, but cheaper. Soooo.... yeah.. This seemed legit.
@monkynutzuk

It takes a bit longer than the AFF course but it's more in depth and you learn a lot more
@crabbit101
@crabbit101 9 жыл бұрын
Mitchell Nelson I would definitely recommend this method as the best way to get your A licence, especially if you're on a budget. As Lewis Says, it takes longer but you learn a lot more about the sport overall and the self-discipline required gets embedded immediately because every jump is solo.
@JustDomchu
@JustDomchu 9 жыл бұрын
Put the lotion in the basket I wouldn't say you learn more... The priorities in the two methods are set differently. While in the AFF the focus is set on the freefall in the static line method flying under canopy is what you learn and train first. Best example: I got my license through AFF, while a mate got it through the static line training. Right after we got our license we made a couple of jumps together just for fun. since he was alone in freefall most of the time he really struggled moving his body around in the air trying to level out with me. But than when it came to flying under canopy he was way more confident than I was. While I landed some of my jumps on the butt or knees and still struggled with the wind and maneuvering he landed it easily.
@MitchellNelson123
@MitchellNelson123 9 жыл бұрын
Domchu I actually did 2 jumps of SL, and got injured on my second jump. I crashed into a barbed wire fence on landing. It was TOTALLY my fault. I'm attributing this to object fixation. But, yes, I was concerned about the prospect of free falling unassisted. I'll probably end up doing AFF.

how can the instructors allow a student to free fall alone? your exit alone couldve been fatal if you had a bad horseshoe or some other malfunction. flippin in air being new you most likely would be saved by aad hopefully. good job staying focused with such shitty instructors

Most of us in the skydive community for a while learned to skydive like this. I had about 30 jumps on the log before I shared the air with anyone. Jumps 1-8 were SL and then a progression of FF: 3s, 5s, 2x 10s, 2x 20s, then 9000ft for the turns and flips. The idea is to learn to skydive, and looks like this guy managed that.
