Good advice. I just came back after a 39 year layoff. I didn’t look as good as you.

you made it look so easy...

Thanks! I was always pretty good at bouncing back after a long break. Those breaks were usually due to injury, which wasn't a good thing haha!

any tips for a fifteen year break?

Haha start really really small and work your way up! Shouldn't be a problem if you take your time! Heck, I started skateboarding(random I know) again after over a decade and it was pretty easy to pick back up where I left off. The first couple biffs in any sport are going to be rough after a long time away from it haha.

Winder Up Thanks, that's the plan. been at for three weeks and am just now moving off pop up oriented drills. So much fun to be back at it. Hoping to set some new "old guy" PRS!! I never quit skating though! keep up the cool videos. very helpful

I want to try and teach myself to vault even though I have never vaulted before in my life. I coach and I have shown some of my kids drills like how to turn from a short approach, and I somewhat got inverted just by picking a random pole and picking a spot on the runway. It wasn't pretty, but it gave the kids a good laugh and shocked some of them.

I’ve tried modifying my run from 5 and 6 steps to start with a long stride, Before I went into a flat sprint and i lost too much speed, would a skip like you so here be better for me or is that just some personal thing you do, I’m open to running technique
@WinderUp6 жыл бұрын
Personally, I loved the skip. I believe it created energy in my run I wouldn't have had otherwise. That being said, it can be inconsistent if you aren't used to it. I was very consistent in it, but that's because I basically did it my whole career. Try it from short approach on some straight pole drills and see what you think. Let me know how it goes.

Winder Up I tried moving my step to 7L and it’s helping me more. Although I’m struggling between a 13 and 14 foot pole. I haven’t tried holding either at the very end but I’m not used to them and my plant and overall jump is suffering, I jumped great-ish on a 12 foot but yesterday with those 2 I went over 11 feet sitting down in the air. I’m not sure what to work on first or how to fix my plant. Any advice?

It's hard for me to tell without seeing your jump. Feel free to shoot me an email at jrwinderpv@gmail.com with some video. I would highly advise not gripping the top of a 13' or 14' pole. That can be unsafe and cause some major timing issues in a vault. Typically I liked to grip about 6" down from the top of the pole. That's where I felt there was a sweet spot, but that's just me. I would advise doing a lot of RPD drills to work on your takeoff and plant. This will allow you to move poles through more easily and focus on the most important phase of the vault. Check this video out for the drill. kzbin.info/www/bejne/gqWaloWZr5eEqas

what does the skipping in the run do??
@WinderUp7 жыл бұрын
Nothing. For me it just created some rhythm from short approach.
