I think the key to learning wheelies is to practice a maximum of 20-30 mins, after that you're gonna make mistakes with the timing and it will get confusing. It took me a couple of days to finally get it up a couple of feet with my DRZ400SM. But progress will only happen the next session and not in the same session. I find that very weird but I think that's how our brains work when learning a new skill. So after a couple runs just call it a day

The brain "digests" the experience you've made over the day when you sleep so that could be one explanation why things get better the next day.

Yep, for muscle memory the body needs to sleep on it, then the next time you get out there, you don't have to 'Think' as much about it...

I watched Day 1 and now this one. I noticed one small noobie error.. I think... I notice everytime you go to pop, your face/go pro comes closer to the bars. When people learn wheelies they'll usually do this, it weights the front. Only time you should do the is if you lean in while clutch in then lean back decompressing the front as you clutch out and throttle. But at this point, I wouldn't worry about compressing/decompressing. So just don't lean forward as you pop. If you read my previous comment on your last video about clutch ups being like aggressive take offs... Adding to that.. When you take off, once the clutch is fully out you keep adding throttle (progressively and smoothly). Likewise with wheelies, the initial clutch pop, is just that, the pop. It allows you to get that boost so the smooth throttle afterwards gets you to the height. You want the initial clutch pop to get you to a decent 40-55⁰ angle. Any less, and you'll have to add too much follow up throttle to where it'll be a power wheelie really. Practice the pop, till it's high. I highly doubt you will loop just from the pop without follow up throttle. Once your pops are highish, this is when you start practicing rear brake. And don't stop practicing rear brakes. Don't let wheelies come down, you brake them down. Just to write that in your brain, foot down = wheelie down. Even if was already coming down, just touch the brake. Foot down = wheelie down. But as you say, nice and steady, learn at your own pace. Just food for thought! Not saying any of my advice is better than anyone elses, just this is how my brain understands wheelies, so maybe your brain understands my brain easier than someone else's. Hope it helps! I'm highly excited for you! You were always like top rider in my list of youtubers I like to watch, so I was super surprised when I seen you posted about learning to wheelie!

This is one of the most helpful things I've found about wheelies. I've just started to learn how to wheelie and I'm obviously practising the clutch up first. But I feel like I have to go from 4000 to 8-9000 revs to any any height whatsoever. I ride a cfmoto 450sr so I feel like it's not a power issue, but I feel the need to hold the clutch in a little longer to get higher revs before I release. I'm using second gear and I try to wheelie at about 30kph Any clue what I may be doing wrong?

Awesome advice bro, I'm trying to learn as well. Quick question, what height should the brake pedal be adjusted to? Mine is stock height and I have to lift my foot off the peg to engage it.
@elifarrow1781
@elifarrow1781 Жыл бұрын
@@GUNSnDOZES yeah that’s definitely not good. Mine’s not adjustable but I know it should be almost parallel to where you foot sits naturally. So only a slight movement in your ankle is needed to engage the brake. If your foot is coming off the foot peg you are unnecessarily destabilising yourself. You want the back brake to be really easy muscle memory, so when you come up too high and panic you don’t struggle to bring it back down

Your patience and focus are admirable. Those skills are quite valuable and I am endeavoring to aquire them, along with the many belt-worthy ones. My learning curve is very circumspect (love that word) and convoluted (eh). As a motorcycle "grasshopper"(sorry about the Kung Fu metaphor) i feel I have to attack these exercises from all sides as well as when riding. However, I also realize the importance of formally completing each segment (belt) and I don't want to miss any part of the process. Having too much fun.... thanks

Clutch up is ideal. Allows more control and a slower speed wheelie. It teaches fundamentals used later on especially when you can no longer just toe it up. Power wheelie gets sketchy because it’s gonna go fast and it kinda slowly comes up, then snaps hard. Stick with it! I’ve been at it for months with practice every day and am just now hitting balance point and sitting on it and shifting gears and getting a good feel for it.

I bought a drz110 to learn how to wheelie on. I highly suggest learning on small pitbikes such as a 110, 125 or grom. They are pretty much indestructible so you can loop them a million times and they are perfectly fine. It hurts less to crash a pitbike vs your beautiful dual sport. Secondly since they have so little power it forces you to learn balance point and modulating the rear brake. Whereas with a big bike it's easy to get stuck only doing chasers and never truly learning balance point. Just a word from experience learning wheelies on smaller bikes is more confidence inspiring, and you learn much more quickly too.

Is it sensable to say that the result is a only a bunny hop max because the real wheel is already in the rollingspeed matching the rev's ? So my gues would be to make it easier give a little bit more gas to make the wheel want to go up a little more? good work do by the way! and to mension. your'e app is a great practice tool! love it!

The next time i suggest you to add a bit of motion of your body: bent your arms a little and bring your torso forward just a few inches and then while popping the clutch bring it back. I noticed that if you do it (even without a big range of motion) the bike will come up with your body and it will feel better: if you stay still and clutch up you feel like the bike is going up and against you but it’s wrong! you have to follow her trust me you will feel much safer. by the way i like your approach in learning a new skill👏🏻

Its my goal to get wheelies down on my cbr 954 this year, started practicing them a bit last year, then stepped away from doing them so much and started practicing them on my bicycle, i spent 15 min every night practicing wheelies on my bicycle for 2 months n can now wheelie a bicycle probably 100 ft, so hoping if i apply same amount of practice to my motorcycle this year i will be able to go a lot farther and higher with my wheelies, for me its scary when the bike comes up higher than i expect it to, hoping that my hand brake coordination i learned on my bicylce will translate to my foot brake on my motorcycle as i rode bicycle with rear brake on both right hand side and left hand side and was pretty much the same muscle memory to hit it when i got too high so hoping my foot will work the same, can you wheelie a bicycle?

@@GUNSnDOZES first...mark where the brake pedal is on the spline.......take rear brake pedal off it....lower down two notches on the spline...try that first..then lower tor your preference..... yes Eddie on the wheelies, I am in practice to and agree on what your saying, quick one for you. over reach which your throttle wrist trust me doing that you will lift it more easy. 1st gear slow roll over reach with wrist, maintain steady throttle. rear brake on enough to drag. throttle roll on blip the clutch and let off rear brake. 11 to 12 o'clock you will get. 1 more thing for wheelies do not have brake fingers over the leaver. why because you can not over reach whith the throttle. people remember this any one who learned to do bad arse wheelies they did it on a stolen bike ect. nobody wants to brake there own bike I know I don't.

once you download muscle skills. start going from 1st into 2nd. to do it do not use clutch just let off throttle and press up fast. when doing that the bike will want to drop. use more throttle remember rear brake! once the bike feels light you are at balance point. at that point you should be on less throttle and touching rear brake on off to maintain balance point.

stock rear brake is ok, only way you will feel a difference is if you had racing rear sets on. I have them but no rear passenger pegs. once you have got the feel for the bike lifting, and you start to go higher. just as the bike wants to drop nurse it down with some throttle. I am 161cm tall, and just over 9 stone, my bike is a 1998 honda cbr 600 f3, race tune ect, that's a heavy bike man just under 200kg steel frame. I have to give it some to get it up, once up the rear brake is there in case you go to far back. if so just a stoke will bring you back. whe. you set up for the wheelie your only using rear brake for a moment to create a push and pull effect for the kinetic energy to do its thing more smoothly.

If I were you, I would try to find a small dirtbike and some grass. You could do it and your bike can definitely do it but I think part of it is it’s an expensive bike it’s new to you and you don’t wanna wreck it or get hurt. if you get a little dirt bike, find some grass it’s not gonna be that big a deal if you flip it and just work your way up, that’s a lot of bike to start learning wheelies on.

Are you weight shifting while you dump the clutch. This point you are at is the worst. You need to transition past that low wheelie with more than the throttle. Pulling on the bars while shifting weight back is key to low throttle input while getting the front wheel over that transition point. This is often used in dirt riding to get the front wheel to clear a log. That 701 will wheelie on the throttle but that transition just using the throttle is too quick. Using body English is key to doing slowly. Wheelies on a Grom require more English and the motor can’t help you much so you will find yourself being better at pumping-dumping&shifting weight as the same motion on all motorcycles that you wheelie. Pump suspension with your arms pushing bar down. Pull and dump clutch at same time while shift weight back. Head and shoulders go past your butt and aren’t forward or above butt. This motion makes a smoother and slower wheelie. Using just clutch and motor is possible but it is not correct if you are learning. Watch dirt bike videos on wheelies over logs. It that same motion that slows the front end so it comes up predictable. Good luck

Like everything it is bike control, knowing how is good, doesn’t mean you are going 100 miles on the rear wheel every day.

Small light 125cc or less Chinese dirt bike on a grassy field, so if drop no problem. You will have no inhibitions about flinging the bike all over the place. Gear up pad up. When you are an adult, that asphalt is scary. I could be wrong.

Just call them episodes, haha. Then you don't have to worry about matching the whole number video and number day thing.

I kind of like your slow approach to learning. Many years ago I watched a western I think it was Bridget Bardot and she wanted to shoot the man who killed her father or husband or whatever and she hired a guy to teach her to draw and shoot a gun. I don't remember much about the film but the one thing I have remembered and applied to many aspects of life is that she was trying to draw fast straight away and he told her this: first comes right, then comes fast. This works for anything that you are learning.

Greg, Don’t you know by now that people sitting on the couch in their mom’s basement know how to wheelie better than you?

Quite hilarious how someone accused you of encouraging people to do wheelies. Not once have you said to anyone that they should or need to do a wheelie lmoa

You can’t be that good at skating and quit to never do it again. Start skating again. I’d watch that

Not criticizing - love your videos - but you could have titled it Learning to Wheelie: Days 2-3...or something to that effect. Keep up the great content!

Hi Moto Jitsu, there seems to be a pirate trying to scam us using your name. Contacted me saying I have won an E bike after several messages I was told to pay 40% of the delivery cost to France. Please put out a warning so nobody gets caught. Crosstourertony ✌️
